19th-Early 20th Century European Matte-Sandblast Proofs

I have read many times that the U.S. matte or sandblast proof pieces ca. 1908 and 1911-15 were based on techniques developed in Belgium and popularized at the Paris Mint. Can anyone provide me with KM numbers or other references/citations/links as to what those early proof Belgian/French pieces were (and were they gold)? Thanks in advance ... talk amongst yourselves.

I know if the French semuse pattern of 1898 (from memory) and the Mexican Caballito patterns of 1907-1909 which were designed by Pillet, a Frenchman, and struck in Paris.

    Sorry, I don't do KM.
