Pray for those in Alabama....Large parts of Tuscaloosa, Birmingham destroyed by monster twisters...

This is apparently what's left of 15th St in Tuscaloosa. An EF4 or maybe even a 5 hit Birmingham too. That means winds up to or over 200MPH.

    Yow! That looks bad. We caught the last sting of tornadoes about ten days ago (in NC), one of them tore through just a few miles from us.

    I'm hoping, but I also saw reports of 32 dead so far in Tuscaloosa. The Weather Channel said this is the worst tornado outbreak in American history.

    God help those affected by the twisters.

    When I see the damage caused by twisters and hurricanes, I tell myself that living in earthquake country (Calif.) just is not that bad (until the "Big One" hits and my house is swallowed up into the bowels of the earth).

    Woof. Here's an article about the damage in Tuscaloosa. 15th St. and McFarland is a major intersection on the east side of town.

    My problems are miniscul compared to that pic. God Bless them all.
    A violent line of t-storms stretching from Pittsburgh, PA to Jackson, MS moving east.
    A comma shaped cell currently in southern IL, appears to be very severe.
    Here in CT nothing so far, but I imagine we'll get some t-storms, just not as severe.

    That storm was in East Texas yesterday and last night. Not nearly as bad around these parts but still no fun what so ever. Some very tense moments around here for sure.

    I got the 32 number from a friend from AL but that seems too optimistic now image The latest report I found lists 39:

    The storms are headed directly towards Atlanta...I used to live there back in the day. The storms are stretching from Alabama/George all the way to New York. Crazy storm system.

    Im not making light of this dreadful situation but this is one of the reasons I live in New Jersey...we dont get stuff like this.

    It's been a rough ride folks. Came out unscathed. 15 dead and counting. Sometimes it takes two weeks for the death toll to come in. Many people criticaly injured may be dead from injuries after a couple of weeks.
    My girl friend's Daughter was in Tuscaloosa when it hit. They ate lunch at of of the restaurants that was totally detroyed later that day. She and all of her friends made it thru OK.

    Just talked with the coach . . .tornado passed 2 blocks from the school he coaches at but he is safe and his particular home and area was missed, but many are in serious trouble there. It is NOT a good situation. Just one tornado, but a major one and went through major populated areas. He is just without power and has been since this afternoon.

    Last count I heard was 58 fatalities in Alabama, 11 here in Ga. And there was a hotel in Ringgold Ga (Bout 25 miles south of Chattanooga) that collapsed. From what the news was saying last night, while we were hunkered down under a tornado warning, is that Ringgold High School got hit hard and the middle school lost an entire wing. Rome and Cedartown Ga also got hit hard. Also a lot of damage just south of Atlanta as well.

    Saw some raw video of the storm that went thru Tuscaloosa and it was HUGE. At times, it showed 2 vortexes.

    Alabama and Georgia got hit hard yesterday and last night. There was one massive cell that was poised to come straight thru our town, but about as soon as the outer edge got here, it veered northward. I read a report this morning in the paper said some chicken houses got hit and now there's 80-100k chickens running loose.

    We all said a prayer when the warning sirens went off at 11PM. Now let's all offer up thoughts and prayers for those hit.

    Wow, this is absolutely horrible!!

    I was driving to work this morning and heard the death toll so far is an incredible 194 with 123 from Alabama alone!!!

    And, the worst part is that they say the count is expected to rise!!

    My prayers go out to all those affected.

    Yeah the storm just skirted north of us here in Duluth GA. Heard the thunder and saw the lightning but we just got the wind. Cartersville and Ringgold in GA got pounded, a whole neighborhood was destroyed, think I just heard 13 deaths and counting in GA, 200+ total for the southeast. Scary stuff.

    I heard that Ringgold, GA was hit. The only other time I've heard of Ringgold, GA is the repeated email scam I get asking how much shipping is to Ringgold, GA in an attempt to hijack my account. I hope the twister only hit the scammer. However, he probably lives somewhere else, likely offshore.

    I called my family in MO yesterday and confirmed the bad stuff was mostly south of them.

    Southerners are strong and those left will do the right thing, respect the dead, and carry on.

    I'm originally from Birmingham and family is still there....talked to my dad and everyone is fine in the family but all have lost power....

    Growing up in Birmingham, tornadoes were very common and most people don't really think twice about them...but My Dad said this storm was by far the worst he has seen.

    He said the storm dropped debris from Tuscaloosa all over Birmingham,... signs, roofs, bricks, etc...Tuscaloosa is an hour away!

    also said there were towns that were literally wiped out and no longer exist...

    it will be a hard recovery for a state that has been hurt so bad by the economy already...lets keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

    Those were some rather large areas of red and purple passing over New Jersey today at lunch. The Weather Channel had
    multiple warnings and watches for that area. How did you fare?? Mel
