The Brown Collection

I'm about to list a half dollar and it's says Brown on the holder. It's an 1806/5 Half Dollar in XF. Does anyone know when this collection was sold and who Brown is ?

I believe his first initial was C. He was balding at an extremely young age and as far as anyone knows had no parents at home to care for him even when he was in grade school. He was charged with taking care of his little sister as well as the family dog and bird. Quite a story really.

That would likely be Robinson S Brown, well-known mainly for assembling two complete Sheldon variety sets of large cents, auctions in 1986 and 1996 by Superior (plus two sets of middle and late dates). He also collected early half dollars and Conder tokens. The halves were sold by Sheridan Downey in two or more mail bid sales in the 1990's. I'm sure someone can give more information.

First name I thought of too, but I didn't know he did halves.
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!

I have one also, an 1824 NGC AU-55, O-117, in an old fatty. I am a bust half collector so I should know better, but to be honest, I am not sure that it is Robbie Brown. I called on old Bust Half club member who advised that (1) Robbie Brown did collect halves and that (2) he was pretty sure that is who it refers to. That's the best I can do, and I have not seen any others.

It is the same guy as the large cent collector. His nearly complete (by Overton) capped bust half collection was sold by Sheridan Downey in a series of mail bid auctions (numbers 13, 14, and 15) in 1995.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
