1989-S Prestige Proof set

I have a 1989-S Prestige Proof set (with the Congress Bicentennial half dollar and silver dollar). I don't remember buying it, but I assume I got it directly from the Mint, for the issue price of $45.

The only factor that would bring this set anywhere close to its issue-price value is the skyrocketing price of silver. Otherwise it's been a dog for 20 years.

I'm tempted to crack the half dollar out of the case and carry it around as a pocket piece.

Do not crack it out, Dennis. IMHO, it is a numismatic crime!

I just broke apart a couple of Prestige sets and sold the dollars at melt. But in my case the metal in the case covers had rusted and looked terrible. They would not have sold as a nice Prestige set because of this. Yep, I have a few clad halves sitting in 2x2s now.
