Missing L in Liberty on '09-S VDB?

ajmanajman Posts: 1,359 ✭✭✭
I was just browsing some upcoming coin lots when I came across this AU-53 example. Please enlarge the obverse photo and tell me if you can see the "L" in Liberty. I sure don't. I do see what appears to be an L to the very edge of the rim, but even that looks as if the horizontal part of the L is about halfway up from the other letters. Very strange. Could this be an error or some sort of variety?

I see a shadow of an "L", nothing more.

Can't tell anything from those pictures, but they do sometimes come weak on the L. No big deal, IMHO.
