Central States Show Public Hours

I have been asked by a few collectors and dealers whether I am going to the Central States show this week in Rosemont.

A year ago when this show was held in Milwaukee, a thread was posted regarding the public hours being only Friday and Saturday. The public could get in earlier Thursday Afternoon with payment for a $75 "Early Bird" Badge.

Link to Thread on public hours one year ago

I sell to both dealers and collectors. I am happy to do so as a dealer and a significant majority of dealers seem to do the same in their business model. Because of the decisions made by the CSNS board limiting their sizable show to just 2 days for the collecting public, I made the decision to not attend as I feel such a schedule is not being supportive of the collectors in our hobby and monitor the situation.

In the thread a year ago, the General Chairman, Ken Folley responded and commented that Central States would go back to the 2-1/2 day schedule of before, if I understand and have read his response accurately. This would mean then the "free" public hours would be Thursday 2-7 PM, Friday 10-6 and Saturday 10-5.

The Information below is from this Central States Show Web Page - Link Here

Bourse Hours:

The 250+ booth dealer bourse area, a central feature of the 72nd Anniversary Convention, will operate in accordance with the following schedule:

Restricted and Special Privilege Hours:

Wednesday, April 27 10AM-5PM PNG Day
(Professional Numismatists Guild Day - admission by advance written invitation only - For complimentary invitation e-mail PNG at info@pngdealers.com. $75* to non-invitation holders, payable to CSNS at event site)

Thursday, April 28 7:30AM-2PM CSNS Booth Holder Setup
(CSNS booth holder setup - Admission restricted to CSNS Booth holders and registered assistants wearing CSNS booth holder credential)

Thursday, April 28 9AM-2PM Professional Preview
Professional Preview - $75* Registration Fee (*One $75 registration fee provides admission to both special privilege previews on Wednesday, Thursday and booth holder only hours Friday and Saturday)

Regular Public Hours:

Thursday, April 28th 2PM-7PM (Booth Holders at 9AM)

Friday, April 29 10AM-6PM (Booth Holders at 9AM)

Saturday, April 30 10AM-5PM (Booth Holders at 9AM)

Admission to the bourse area is free during the Friday-Saturday regular public hours.

It would appear one still needs to pay $75 for the Thursday 2 PM-7PM regular public hours as per the CSNS website and that the only "Free" public hours are Friday and Saturday. It could also be there is just an honest conflict in what's written on the webpage and the bold hasn't been updated on their site to also include Thursday afternoon as free public hours.

Since I made a decision one year ago to not participate and will not be attending, for those dealers or collectors that plan on attending, specifically on Thursday afternoon, I would really appreciate hearing back from you on exactly what happens Thursday regarding public admittance and the cost of doing so. A post here or PM would be greatly appreciated.

I took a stance which is why i am not there this week, but I am open to returning if collectors and the public have more available hours at this show, without having to pay $75 for Thursday afternoon.

Thanks.

The ad I am looking says:

    COMPLIMRNTARY ADMISSION HOURS:

    Thursday April 28th 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM

I doubt they'll charge $75 for Thursday afternoon, otherwise, why make the distinction between the preview hours and the public hours. Perhaps the text is meant to convey that the entire day Friday and Saturday are free and open to the public, whereas only part of Thursday is. A quick phone call to Jerry Lebo or Kevin Foley could clear this up.

Grand Am, thank you for the information. Maybe the changes and updates were incomplete on the website then and Thursday afternoon has been restored to the public. I hope that is the case!

Will dealers be open for business on PNG day? Is this the first shot at material?
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?

It's my understanding only PNG dealers will be set up on Wednesday. I would guess that to be 30-40 of the 250 dealers advertised as attending and setting up at the show.

PNG Day is from 10-5 on 4/27 and admission is to invited guests. Print this out and consider yourself invited. Just show it to the PNG registration.
The only exhibitors are members of the Professional Numismatists Guild.

The Central States exhibition starts on Thursday, as above.

    Drop by and say hello.

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

.so we still have to guess as to whether or not we have to cough up $75 bucks if we arrive @ 2 p.m Thursday ?

Thats nice of you JUlian to invite a few hundred guests on Wednesday.but I boycotted PNG dealers and just want to know if I have to pay 75 bucks to get in after 2 p.m on Thursday -

I repeat : do I have to pay 75$ to gain admittance on Thursday afternoon as a public admission ?

.........and finally , for those folks that skim over the posts and make statements and comments that make them look foolish :

DO I HAVE TO PAY 75$ TO GET IN THE DOOR tHURSDAY AFTER 2 ??

I tried calling the contact numbers listed on the website and didn't get through to anyone. Here's the ad in the CW events calendar I'm looking at now:

blah blah blah hours: Wed 10-5, Thurs 2-7, Fri 10-6, Sat 10-5. blah blah blah DLR: 325, TA[bles] 250. FR[ee admission]. PNG day Wed, by written invitation or $75 Preview Registration. blah blah blah Early Bird day Thurs., 4/28, 9-2, $75 blah blah blah.

If anyone tries charging you $75 to get in after 2 on Thursday, they are wrong. Cite the advertisements.

2-7 on Thur. Is free as mentioned above ... And if there is any doubt, I just called Kevin Foley and he confirmed it.

Edited to add: "Paul" stop by my table ... Didn't see you in Milwaukee at the show a few weeks ago ...

For hours and admission times and costs all are clearly posted on the CSNS website.

And I am going to pay the early bird fee so I can buy the great earlybird coins.

Hmmm.......I didn't know that only PNG dealers will be set up on Wednesday. If that's the case then the bourse floor will be nearly empty. I think I'll wait until Thurs. afternoon to attend.
