1982-S Washington Commem PCGS PR69 Peac-ock Rainbow Vivid Toning

Ok, so this may be a stretch for a registry collection, since there are some graded PR70, but if there's ever a toned registry set, it's a contender! From my personal collection, and yes this is really what it looks like.

For sale on eBay with NO RESERVE. I also have a Canadian dollar with similar but not as vivid toning also for sale on eBay.

* Warning: If you've got other toned coins, they may look drab in comparison! image

Tad: Your coin is really cool!! image

Do you know a bit of the history of his coin as to how it might have toned so beautifully? Wondercoin

No, unfortunately I don't, or I know how I'd be storing my proofs for the next 20 years. image

However, the toning is virtually identical to the Peacock Ikes. Possibly this was even part of that hoard? There are at least one or two others out there with similar toning.

DB55- I know you don't collect Moderns, but why wouldn't you want this one? I ask out of total sincerity and without a harsh tone. I'm truly curious as to your position.

I would want it, but sadly, it's already past a level where I could get it at. Instead, must let someone else enjoy it. I've seen a few of the other early silver dollar commems toned like that at auctions in the past, but they are few and far between.

  • I'm with Larry. I would pay for instructions on how a coin could tone like that!

That's one really nice toned coin,I'm not much into toned coins but I'd buy this in a heartbeat.

Braddick, I really do not like toned coins. All of the Ikes everyone is googling over are just plain "ugly" to me. For me almost every toned Morgan I have ever seen needs a good dip. Just a personal preference. Nice in these times when bright white coins go for peanuts compared to their toned counterparts.

Normally I collect only White Deep cameo Proof Coins but the coin in question here is much like watching a beautiful sunset or a wonderful picture to admire in ones old age. The coin is truly a dream come true. Bear

DD55: I appreiate your honest answer and your approach in answering it (knowing I was sincere and not picking a fight). I understand your logic but disagree with your reasoning. But of course if everyone thought as I did then the price of these would skyrocket (as if they're not expensive as is).

I'm usually the toning skeptic and shout "Jeweluster!" before anyone else. image

However, that piece really floored me. Beautiful.

(The price floored me, too!) image

Wow, can I steal that line? image

Re: the Peacock Ikes, I've seen them sell for $100 to several thousand, all depending on toning, date, and condition. Probably the $100 days are long gone even for an "ugly" one. And there are a few out there that would very likely bring $10,000 today.
