Is this common?

I have a friend who walked into PSA in Newport last Friday to take advantage of the same day grading services. When the grades came back he asked why he got the grade he did (8.5) and the girl went back to the back room and brought out the grader who explained to him why his card got the grade it did. Is it weird that she brought the grader out to talk to him personally? I always thought that the grader was to remain anonymous?

He also said he saw someone with a Mantle "rookie," and that the person and his card were escorted to another room. Is there certain priviledges you get if you have super high end cards?

Maybe they put him in a private "consultation" room to inform him that his card is a fake. That way, noone can see him cry.

I once brought in a PSA compromised holder in. And yes a grader came out to inform
me that the card encased was doctored, explaining to me what was wrong with it in
detail. I forgot the grader's name though?

Oh , my bad..after re reading the OP , it seems that the same grader that graded the
card was confirming his grade given. Carry on....

FYI - After speaking to the owner of the card, he asked if I would take the link off to his card.

I think confidentiality doesnt matter once the card is graded. It might not matter at that point if the grader knows whose card it is, since the grade has already been applied.
  • I'm surprised he came out to explain the grade... That puts him on the spot if the owner makes a good point. With that said, I think it shows a bit of integrity of PSA to do that. They could easily hide in the back room and tell the owner to go home...

    kudos to PSA!

Which is exactly why it was a nice gesture on the grader's part. If the owner made a good point that would justify raising the grade, the grader's mere presence implies that he would have been willing to raise it.

The owner of the card did ask if he should resubmit to get the 9 grade. The grader told him that he "should be happy with the 8.5."
