Board evaluations welcome...1977 Topps baseball

Gimme your honest opinions. I will let you know how they came out... I think 2 of the 4 have GEM capability. Which two am I thinking about? image

Is that a print mark on Carew's right leg? That may keep it out of a 10 holder if it is. Because of the small fisheyes on the 2nd base flag of the Morgan card, I would say the Munson has the best shot at Gem. Nice cards.

i think all four are nine's. great looking cards!

Well for corner and edge sharpness they are all 9s at least
If any have print marks that would affect their chance at a 10, but it won't rule it out entirely
The Concepcion looks too narrow an might get MINSIZEREQ
The borders on the Morgan and Carew look too big, makes me wonder if those two were sheet cut
If it meets the size requirement, the Carew has the best shot, I think

I like Carew the best, and am also worried about Concepcion - looks tilted or diamond cut too. ALl are beauties though - nice pickups!

Nice cards! Carew/Concepcion look the strongest with Munson the weakest - high 8 to 8.5 due to centering/picture placement. Keep us posted!
    Enjoy your collection!

Thanks for all the comments. You guys are very astute. I will be happy with nines on them for sure. To me, I rank these 1) Carew, 2) Concepcion, 3) Morgan, 4) Munson. I also sent in a nice Foster, two Bretts, and another Carew that are 8-9 quality to me. If I get one 10 total I will be ecstatic!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Bobby

    I agree with your assessment.

Would be nice to have bigger scans - but they definitely look like 8 or better.

    Backs look good?

    Good luck on your sub.

Backs are all good Mike. Well within acceptable standards for GEM even. No stains, no crazy borders, print marks, etc. I have put the Carew and Concepcion under 10X lighted magnification and the corners are absolutely perfect. The color and gloss are great as well. The Morgan has razor sharp corners but does have two fisheyes on the front. The Munson has great gloss, 3 perfect corners, good centering, and nice color.

I hope my eyes are failing me, but the left and right borders on the Concepcion both look thin. Even the colors on it look off to me, like a photocopy that was cropped wrong (hence the thin borders). Good luck with your submission.

Thanks for looking. It is definitely a real card (actually, a PSA 9 crackout but don't let that get to the graders!) image Bobby

Carew looks amazing!! Concepcion has the most eye appeal at first, but I'm a little worried about a slight tilt on that one.

Other two looks like solid 9's to me. image

Is there a mark on Munson's inside lid.

No, that is on the plastic holder. I was a little worried at first when I looked at scan...

Carew and Morgan look the best IMO.

Where do you keep coming up with those 77s? You're going to have to make me a deal on a Rose and Brett. image

I primarily collect 77 All-Stars so it is not hard to stay focused. I have bought many vending boxes and unopened material over the past several years. I also have had luck on Ebay with some nice scores. I have so many 9s and 8s of all 18 All-Stars from that year it is laughable. I have 12 of them in 10. My goal is all 18 in 10 one day. I am sort of a hoarder with these puppies, to be honest. In total, I probably have over 500 77 Topps All-Star cards with about half of them being graded. image

Didnt read the comments yet, but I think the Morgan and Carew are the best 2, but I see spots on both.

Obviously the scans are not the easiest to see, but the Munson looks to have a corner touch bottom right, and the Concepcion a small indent on top edge above the end or the "S" in "REDS".

all 4 look nice though, but for a 10 you got to be picky.

I think the all nice cards; probably in the 8 to 9 range. Each card just seems to have that little something that I think will keep them out of 10 holders. Concepcion seems lined up down the right side, but slanted down the left, the Morgan has the fisheyes around 2nd Base, from the scan, the Munson looks to have a slight soft top left corner and the Carew appears to have the best chance of the highest grade, but I do wonder (like the others) what the spot on his right leg is. JMHO.

Great observations, gents. I sent them all in so I will let you know how they turn out. I think the Carew is the best of the bunch but we shall see. Hopefully, I get a kinder, gentler, grader! image
