Grading 1$ Gold

I'm new at evaluating 1$ Gold.

And I'm sure that I don't have the right color balance for this example:

Cleaned? Technical grade? Thanks!

Im saying AU50, if it werent for the slight old scratch and the few nicks the hair detail on the brow would say AU55. It is authentic.

How can one tell in this case? Weight? Diagnostics? Both? Others?

What is the giveaway here? Thanks!

It's real and appears to be an AU50. It should grade but no CAC sticker with those marks.

I'm not an expert by any means, but it looks like a cast copy. There is too much detail with too much wear. Details are "mushy" and it looks un-natural and blocky.

When would such a cast copy have been made? In the 1850s? Later?

I've been collecting U.S. gold since the late 1960's and that coin is real. There is one issue with small gold---they were very popular for jewelry use so you need to check the edge for solder or signs that solder has been removed.
