I say not overvalued. But of course I prefer the 56 over a 52.

Great looking card of the game's best player at the time, after mysteriously not having cards in the two previous sets.... overvalued? I think not! I think the late 60s Mantles (aka the alkie years) are overvalued tho!!

I think all mainstream Mantle cards are over valued..............

Yes, Mickey was better than almost all of them, but I still think his cards are over valued

at least in relation to theirs.

    Regional issues may not be.

    Good for you.

    Roar

He was under an exclusive contract with Bowman I believe.

Musial was not in any of the mainstream sets at the time because he was under
contract with Rawlings and they had to give permission for him to be included
in the regional sets (Red Man) and the like.

I think Ted Williams was in a similar situation at times as well.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I hope it is dramatically overvalued, and I also hope collectors realize this within the next few years- because I need to buy a nice one for my '56 set.
'Sir, I realize it's been difficult for you to sleep at night without your EX/MT 1977 Topps Tom Seaver, but I swear to you that you'll get it safe and sound.'

    *1956 Topps baseball- 97.4% complete, 7.24 GPA
*Clemente basic set: 85.0% complete, 7.89 GPA
  • Maybe not overvalued but my least favorite card of him. He looks to have a fish face in this picture... not a good likeness at all.

    Well...

if ya buy it from Levi - it'll definitely be overpriced!

I think a really nice 6 isn't too bad in terms of price.

    Overvalued?

I agree with Steve - compared to other great players of that era - a bit much.

My favorite Mantle card, Love the image and style of the 56 Topps. Although being that it is only his third Topps card produced and his triple crown year I say probably not overvalued compared to his other cards. Compared to his peers, maybe.

  • I'm in the market for one too....PSA 7 is my max, though. I need to stay married.
    South of Heaven...North of Canada
  • It's probably my least favorite card, and his least flattering picture, what with those liverlips and all...

Not to me. It is a special card. Besides the 1956 set is one of the best looking sets.

I think it looks overvalued compared the prices of the '54 and '55 Bowman's. One of my favorite cards ever. Also love the 55 Bowman!

    Agreed wholeheartedly.

The whole '56 Topps set is phenomenal. If anything, I think too many people over look how awesome it is.

Seems you either love or hate the 56 Mantle...I am on the side that really likes it. Here is a pic of mine and the center piece of my 56 set. It may be a bit overvalued as others have mentioned but there is no shortage of buyers for it. Nicely centered copies definately demand a premium and are not easily available.
