Texas Half Dollar Grading Opinion

Hey guys first post here. It is great to be a part of this community.
I have had this Texas half for over five years now. One of the few coins I bought raw.I am thinking about sending it to TPG company. I was wondering if some of the folks here would post their opinion on grade.
I am hoping for a MS66.
The pic might show some grainy look on the coin's surface which is due to flickr file compression. Surfaces on the coin are smooth and lustrous with no visible rub etc.

Thanks for looking.

    4 for me.
  • Thanks guys for your opinion. Any particular reason why you grade it a MS64? There are no visible contact marks on the surface accept the small toning below the eagle.

64 maybe 65, you have a soft strike on her knee and hand.

The photos look like a 4, but the coin may look like a 6 in hand.

Its really tough to grade a coin, when as you say, the surfaces look different than the photos?--------BigE

Strike (both sides) will keep it away from 66 territory. 64-65 seems a reasonable assessment.

MS 65, IMO, but as others have said, grading from photos is difficult at best.

My first thought was 64. If the luster is all there (tough to tell from photos, as they don't really "pop"), then this could make a 65 holder. Good in-hand luster and eye appeal could overcome some contact marks (field, star, eagle's leg) and a less-than-full strike.

What's that black spot by the date?
  • Very weak strike there.
  • Thanks a lot every one for all the replys. I guess if it grades MS64 it's not worth sending in as this is the only coin I have that needs to be graded other than some ASE's and modern comme's.
