Lets say you had unlimited means to spend on a Bobby Orr...

Rookie card. Which card would you purchase and why?

Well... I guess that was a dumb question. I'm a coin guy, I don't get cards. I saw one of his RC cards on ebay for like $75K and another for $30K amd another for $8K. I think all three of those cards are crazy prices. Can anyone confirm my suspicion? Thanks.

Probably all different grades? Just like coin grading, cards are also graded and vary in value quite a bit depending on condition

I believe he has a topps RC and a topps USA test which is and therefore more desirable - no?

Yes the U.S.A. test cards are basically the same thing but they say printed in the U.S.A. on the back
and those are worth much more then the printed in Canada cards and thats saying a lot because
that one in nm to mint if there is such a thing goes for real good money.

The test issue is extremely short printed, and thus the prices are very high. BMW has a test issue SGC 96, the highest one ever graded available.
You can usually pick up a test issue in PSA 5 or 6 grade for around 5K. When you get into PSA 7 or 8, the prices is much, much higher.

As for his regular issue rookie, there is only one graded PSA 9 that sold for about 50k or so a few years back. PSA 8's usually sell for around 7-8k

Maybe the question should be if all Bobby Orr cards were worth the same money, which one would you most like to have?

I would trade every card I own for that one PSA 9 graded Orr that sold a few years ago.
  • The one that sold in the mastro auction was for 35K I believe. Joester got it, only because Alan Marc Smith stayed
    out of the bidding.

Buy a PSA 8 rookie of Bobby Orr. That is the best way to go IMO.
  • I would also look into a PSA 9 of his second year. Very nice card.

    68-69 Topps in a PSA 9. A total B&*%H to find centered.
Kiss me once, shame on you.
    Kiss me twice.....let's party.
  • I finally got my 1966 Orr rookie PSA 4. I know it does not compare to the PSA 8's and 9's, but it is one of my favorite cards!!!!

If you had unlimited means, why wouldn't you just buy the best card available at that time, and then upgrade when the opportunity presented itself?
