Does this realy help sell a coin on the Bay??

I see more and more auction pictures like this and to me (MOO) it is
very distracting to look at. Most of the time when I see them on a
page I won't click to see the auction. I'm trying to see the coin not
all the little stickers. Do sellers think that it is like a "CAC" sticker or
something. I apologize to any members of the forum that does this.
Any thoughts about it?

It's a big turnoff for me as well.

There seems to be an obsessive/compulsive nature to plastering stickers all over the holders.
Personally I think it is foolish.

It's as bad if not worse than seeing "L@@K!" in the title.

I have seen dealers with whole cases of that garbage - and I blow right on by after a quick glance.

I just bought from "that sticker guy" and was very pleasantly surprised with his stuff! It's a harmless gimmick, to each his own. I showed my wife the 2 x 2, and she laughed and said it looked like his 8 year daughter must be on the payroll! He must get a bulk sticker discount because he currently has 8,000+ coins on eBay........8,000 x 5 sticks per flip/slab = A LOT OF STICKERSimage

They used to bug me to no end. That's Ebay user 29957blue and he/she is blocked from my canned searches now so I don't have to put up with all that junk. Maybe I'll miss a bargain, but in my experience, most of his stuff wasn't worth the time for the page to paint. JMHO....

I blow right past this stuff... and I'm sick of seeing it all the time, as I consistently page down whenever it comes up. Hucksterism. Coins might be decent, I don't know. But to me, this isn't professional, it's carnival.

  • I would hazard a guess that Yes , it probably does help sell coins. Reason being the free advertising the seller gets , thats got to be the 5th thread fairly recently concerning the same seller.Free advertising all over the coin forums can't hurt.

For the typical Joe and Jane6P who buy on ebay it probably does help. The same way it probably helps at flea markets, garage sales, and $1.00 stores. People get pulled in by
signs proclaiming "sale" or "going out of business" (for the 10th time in 10 yrs...lol) or "ware house clearance," etc. There's no reason to believe that the less sophisticated collectors
do indeed fall for this methodology. Just because not more than 1 in 100 buyers here on the forum would be positively influenced matters little....as we as a group are <1% of the coin buying public.

I still recall at one of my local B&M's back in the mid-1970's always had "you missed this bargain" filling all the empty slots in his 2X2 display cases. The bottom line was that those
missing coins probably represented "burials" to the new owners....lol. In the 20 or so years I frequented that store until the owner's passing, I think I only bought 2 decent coins.
One was a near gem $20 saint that made money during the 1973-74 run-up in the price of gold. The other was an AU58/unc 60 1876-cc half that I still lost money on when I finally
    sold it.

In a funny way those stickers are helpful; IMO those seller's overprice their coins, so I know immediately I don't have to open their auction listings.

If I recall correctly, a forum member got an awesome deal on a really rare Seated Quarter that he bought from one of these sticker-eccentric eBay sellers.

It's all about catching the buyers eye. no harm. sometimes they have some good stuff.

Only reason I bought this quarter was becuase it was stickered. I heard Tradedollarnut state that he would only buy stickered coins. So I was following his sage advice. And it did grade at PCGS, but I lost the sticker. I am really depressed about this.
