  • BGS 8 unless it got 7-7.5 on centering, corners, and surface, and 9-9.5 on edges. Then I'd want the PSA 7.

    Shawn,

I would think the large majority of people would want the card in this order:

    BGS 8

    PSA 7

    BCCG 9

    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

That's what I thought, me too. I just wanted to see most people's thinking. Maybe some are loyal to PSA or trust that one grader is better?

I prefer Pro Graded cards because I like the look of a finely trimmed, recolored card.

I'd buy the card and not the holder, but all things being equal I'd take the PSA 7- the half dozen or so times I've bought a BGS card it's been grossly overgraded, and dropped a few grades upon crossing. I'll never buy anything that is more than 15 years old in their holders again. And certainly not anything vintage (pre WW2)

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

Absolutely. The vast majority of the time (95%+?), the BGS 8 will cross directly to a PSA 8. With the BCCG 9, it could fall anywhere from PSA 6 to PSA 9.

    Topps Heritage

    Now collecting:
    Topps Heritage

    1957 Topps BB Ex+-NM
    All Yaz Items 7+
    Various Red Sox
    Did I leave anything out?
  • If there's a chance the card might have been cut recently from a sheet, I'd go with the PSA 7. Otherwise BGS 8.

BCCG gets a bad rap. Their grading is actually reasonably accurate, it's just that people put more emphasis on the numbers rather than the actual grade. A PSA 7 will generally cross to a BCCG 9, which is Near Mint on their flip. A PSA 8 will usually be a BCCG 9 as well. PSA 9s will generally become BCCG 10s (Mint) if centered, but will often only pull a BCCG 9. So in actuality, BCCG can be harsher when it comes to some flaws. They also reject more cards than you would think for trimming and min size req.

The problem with BCCG lies in the fact that there are no middle grades, and no Gem Mint grades. So basically their scale would be akin to PSA's scale looking like:

    PSA 4 VG
    PSA 5 EX
    PSA 7 NM
    PSA 9 MINT

But anybody that thinks they're sitting back and rubber stamping 10s really has no idea what they're talking about. In the end you buy the card and not the holder, so I think this question is really pointless without being able to see the cards to compare to one another.

That's been my experience too, but their standards may be different for the super high volume customers. With a multi-thousand card order, it's not hard to imagine that standards could become more lenient even if favoritism didn't come into play.
