My dad managed a privately owned trucking company, that began in one state, and grew to over 20 states with various locations within each state. The privately held stock was valued at $25.00 when the company began in 1965, and now it is worth over $400 per share.
He just got back from his board meeting in Chicago. The owner of the company sits on the board of Burlington Northern (bought out by Warren Buffett). The numbers showed that his company which is responsible for hauling chemicals across the United States had their best year in the history of the company. Like many other companies, they had their worst year in 2008, but they have surely recovered.
