Found some 1909 VDBs, but no S

A friend gave me some coins hes been saving to go through just to see if there is anything worth selling. Last night I finished going through the wheatys and the only ones that may have any value are the 1909 VDBs. He has nine of them and one 1909 without the VDB. After finding the 3rd or 4th I started getting my hopes up to find an S VDB, but it didn't happen, to bad it would have been nice.

I just used the Red Book to make a SWAG at grades and by that I'm guessing they're VG8 to VF20; what do you think I should tell him they're worth? $2 each, $10 each? I'll probably take a picture of them together, one obv, one rev, two pictures he can use for ebay.

Thanks for helping me help him.

Just add an S mint mark and you will be good to go.....
I have no idea on value the MS ones are so cheep I always had issues getting greysheet for lower grades.

Although my pride and joy is a red set of PCGS wheaties, I recently assembled a raw XF/AU set from parts of an estate I bought. It meant upgrading many and selling pennies like you're asking about.

Some I bundled but most were sold one at a time on ebay. Many sold for just a few dollars, some of the tougher ones as high as $20-30. I would tell your friend what they're worth retail but that expenses to sell will cut into it significantly. A couple of dollars, on average, for run of the mill early wheaties is probably correct. Anything after 1930, with a few exceptions, less than a dollar. Generic late wheaties, maybe a few cents each.
    Lance.
  • I was thinking the 1909 VDBs were the only ones that may be worth selling; those are the ones I hoped to get an idea of what to tell him to expect price wise. The rest of them are more common so I was thinking a couple cents each.

Maybe ya had some very longshot chance if you're located on the West Coast. On the East Coast...forget about it...heck on the East Coast it's kinda unusual to see even a circulating common S mint...let alone a 1909S VDB, even if it was the 1920's. LOL
  • That's pretty close to what he said when I told him I was hoping to find an S. We're in Michigan so most everything is Phili, today we have to go just a little west to Chicago for Denvers.

You may have a better chance finding a 22d or 24d which is worth a lot more.
