Will your collection be memorable? Or will it fade away like others?

I was looking at my collection the other day, and thought to myself.....Will this collection be memorable to anyone other than me? Probably not was my first answer.
Looking at books published for amazing collections like the Norweb collection, Eliasburg etc, I thought it would be a great thing to have your collection looked at by others as something to strive for. But the coins in those collections usually cost big bucks for good reason, and every day collectors can't afford such coins.
So how can an every day collector with a limited budget make their mark on this hobby? Is it even possible? Or once we are gone, will the collections be sold and fade away in the mix with all other coins? I was thinking about having my large cent collection slabbed by PCGS, and have my last name written on the slab labels of each slab.
Thoughts?

Yes you may never be an eliasberg... but you definitely can have as much fun as he did!
IMO, for a collection to be significant, and hence truly memorable, it has to have a good theme
and be a superb exemplar of same. It should also be photographed to the highest possible
standards. The fact that your name is on the slabs after it gets broken up won't really mean as
much in the end analysis.

Hoard the keys.
In early copper I think that knowing a coin's history with famous and not-so-famous owners adds character to the coin and the hobby.
If I get my Complete Dime Complete variety set finished it will be something never done before.
I know that's a B I G if!!!!!
The best way to make your collection memorable is to become extremely good at what you do and freely share with others. Several forum members' collections come to mind: Sunnywood, Coinosaurus, Dahlonega, and the late IGWT.
I prefer to keep my coins in PCGS slabs, but I know that NGC will put your name/collection name on a slab label. Though I'm sure they charge more for it.

<< <i>I was be nice if a history report of who has owned a paticular graded coin would follow. Just thinking it would be cool.....But what company will be here for a very, very long time that would take on a task like that?
This is a neat idea, you could get a coin carfax-----------BigE
"We are but custodians and I hope that one day others will cherish these coins as much as I have" - Not an exact quote, but one of the previous 'custodians' of our 1845 and 1851 made this comment in his bio in the auction catalog. It is well said.

By Cherrypicking Varieties that everyone has either missed or passed on because it just wasn't the popular thing to do. I have purchased a number of varieties in the past year that are either stand alone pop top or tied pop top. This to me is really cool since I do not have the bank account to compete with so many others on these boards. I'm just a poor guy.

and have fostered interests in my son so I hope it
doesn't go to the dogs. I could see a problem trying to keep a
a extremely valuable collection together.
I have some great coins but have never given thought to a registry, much less my name on a slab.
I want to be remembered by the question....
Did he enjoy the hobby?
And the answer.....
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
forgotten. The world of man is composed and caused by smoke and mirrors or
people would be more likely to not fight for life and the future. When people in
the future look at coins they are going to see much nicer coins from this era than
if I had never been here. They are going to have a higher opinion of us and hence
themselves than if my coins had been allowed to be lost.
I will most surely have an effect. No one will know it however. ...Probably.
Mebbe if I live long enough I can get me a pedigree.
