More Spanish Artifact than Medal

This cast medallion is curious for at least two reasons. Isabel II simply was not that popular and to further muddy the situation, the medallion bears the year 1868 when she was kicked out of Spain. Yet someone clearly wanted to honor her during that year. I doubt if I will ever know.

probably issued in the beginning of 1868 , she left Spain september 30th 1868,
to return in 1875 , when her son Alfonso became King Alfonso XII of Spain.
