What is the PSA equivelant of BGS, SGC?

Comments

  • BGS 9.5= PSA 10, SGC's higher grades I don't know too well but I know 100 is damn near impossible.... And for the most part I figure they are pretty equal, one company may be harder on one aspect than the other
  • They are usually close although there is no exact science comparing the three. I would say it's plus or minus a full grade most of the time. Sometimes something could be missed(surface/print issue) bringing the grade up or down. You would have to do a crossover to truly find out. Personally, I'm happy with any of the above companies in any grade I choose because eye appeal is most important.

    True...

"Buy the card not the holder"

What I consider grading for the most part is just the authentication of the card.

    Does a BGS 8 = PSA 8?

The general consensus is that they are pretty much equal when compared on a wide range of issues. SGC has a dual grade with the 1-10 equivalent to go with their 10-100 scale, so one can compare apples to apples. BVG, BGS's vintage service, tends to be a little less strict than the PSA and SGC with regard to vintage grades and straight crossovers to either PSA or SGC are less successful than crossing PSA or SGC to each other.

The simple caveats to know are:

** BGS will admittedly grade sheet cut cards (most notably OPC issues) that meet the accepted standards and specifications.
** When compared to PSA, SGC tends to be more lenient with regard to centering while tending to be more critical on corners.
** BGS and SGC, in effect, use NET GRADE rather than applying QUALIFIERS - A significantly off-center card that is otherwise NM/MT would probably grade BGS 6 with BGS or SGC 80/6 with SGC while garnering a PSA 8 (OC).

    YMMV...

It seems that the PSA grading is more desireable than the others. When I search for graded cards, the PSA grades seem to go for more than the SCD.
