Just thought this list of the largest contracts in HISTORY was interesting... seems there are a few 'duds' here.
Certainly a few that didn't really live up to their hype.

Maybe it's just me, but it looks like the Yankees have "blown" the most $$.

I don't know about the Yankees having "blown" the most dollars. Every single Yankee on that list with the exception of Jason Giambi was instrumental in bringing the Yanks at least 1 title during the years of their big contract. The only other names on that list that can claim the same thing are Manny and Pujols. Zito would have a * by his name since they did win a title last year with him, but he wasn't even on the playoff roster. Of course, the Giants did need every single one of his meager wins to make the playoffs.

this one didn't make the list because the contract wasn't for more than a million but I remember when the Indians blew a wad of $$$ on Wayne Garland after he had his one good year and he then hurt his arm

I'd be willing to bet if someone developed a metric to measure how much of a contract a free agent lived up to, almost all would fall short of playing up to the contract amount. And I'd be equally sure that Theo Epstein would have worst "dollar per performance" for free agents of any general manager in baseball.

Carl Crawford does not belong on that list, he is grossly overpaid.
  • There aren't many duds on the list at all. A few still have a couple years to prove their worth, the only one that stands out is Mike Hampton and possibly Kevin Brown and Carlos Beltran.
