Unopened 1967 Canada proof set with gold. Would you open it?

I have this set that I haven't opened. I had two but opened one. The coins were are very nice and I sent in the gold for grading hoping for a DCAM. Had a 67 DCAM come back once before. Now I am way too tempted to open the other set. It is nice to keep it intact but it can only be only be opened once. Does anyone know if there is any value to it remaining closed like the US sets? Or maybe it is one of those things 20-30 years from now it would be uber-rare that way.

Thanks,
Richard

I would open it. I can't stand not knowing what might (or might not) be in there. Plus, all of the 1967 PL68 coins that I made at PCGS came from unopened sets.
  • Naw I wouldn't open it.

Send it to me. I'll do it for you image
No,no- the kids and the cat are all right honey.
It's just that I got my PCGS grades.

  • I've come to terms with the fact that if I own an unopened item, sooner or later it'll be opened (usually sooner). May as well pop that sucker open right now.image

Of course it's easy for us to tell you to open it, because it's not ours.

Value wise I think opened or unopened is the same. These are usually valued at the bullion value of the coins. Only premium would be if the coins are nicely toned and you got them slabbed. I personally would open it.

Open it and enjoy the coins. Life is short and tomorrow is guaranteed to no one. Drink your best bottle of wine with someone you love.

It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I've never understood the attraction of unopened sets. If whatever one hopes to find upon opening is something that's commonly found, I don't see where there'd be any extra value for a sealed set. And if it's something not commonly found, well... you probably don't have one in yours, either.

Keeping it sealed is like if you had a scratchoff lottery ticket, and you decided not to see if you were a winner. But then, that's just me...
