1691 Hungary Taler (Kremnitz Mint)

Hungarian Talers were minted at the Kremintz Mint, a state-owned mint situated in Kremnica, Slovakia. The town has been a site of coin manufacturing since 1328. This mint was home of the most important mint of Hungary, and later the only mint of Czechoslovakia and Slovakia and was one of the first mints in 1499 to start minting silver Talers.

These Hungarian Talers can be identified by the K.B letters on reverse. These Talers are EXTREMELY hard to find in mint state quality and command a premium if found. I had an opportunity to pull the trigger on this one and could not hold back. It is interesting how the quality of the strike/die varies between each mint. As a comparison, the Hall (Tirol) Mint output was far more qualitative in terms of strike, quality, as they had the more advanced minting techology at the time.
