Question about the Hunt Brothers

dontippetdontippet Posts: 2,606 ✭✭✭✭
Back in 1979 and 1980 when silver prices were soaring, were the Hunt brothers common knowledge? The reason I ask is because I am curious if the recent silver run could also be artificial, we just don't know the reason why yet.

Yes, Nelson's and Bunker's interest in the silver market was widely known.

Silver has showed strength on way up slow & steady. Maybe to fast recently but still way different than Hunt's era.

I was 9 and 10 years old during that time frame and I knew about the Hunt brothers, they were a common topic of conversation...

They weren't commonly known until the end of '79 but many silver insiders knew who was taking delivery of the contracts a little earlier.

"Everyone" knew by mid-'80 or so.

We knew about them but the sales pitch that I bought which motivated me to buy futures contracts then was a pitch that the new cruise missile program needed more silver than what the US had in reserves.

My broker down in Ft. Lauderdale at the time told me that same thing.
