1991 OPC Chipper Jones PSA 10 Sharing & 2500 hits 1500 RBI's thread

Hello to all!! I don't have a registry for Chipper. But I finally got a sweet O Pee Chee PSA 10, 1/10, I think. Tougher then Tiffany, and less expensive then Desert Shield PSA 10/BGS 9.5. So I'm happy. Sure I could have went with Desert Shield PSA 9/BGS 9, but I wanted a gem copy, so it made sense to go with this. Its the only Chipper I own, and I couldn't be happier! I really like that it is 50/50 all around front and back, amazing. That spot on left border is the holder, not the card. No fish eyes, great print. Great edges for an OPC type. Glad I got to see last nights game on MLB, what great timing! Chipper smacks 2500th hit, just a couple rbi's from 1500, a couple shy of 500 doubles, hopefully he makes 450 hr's, at 436 current. Soon will join Murray as only switch hitters with 2500 and 1500. Has 3rd most hr's by a switch hitter behind mantle and murray. Chipper is the only 3rd baseman in MLB history with 8 straight 100 rbi seasons, just missed 9 seasons by 4 rbi's. Plus many other stats, and 1 WS title. What I respect about Chipper is he admits his mistakes from his past, cleaned up his act, got help, took his lumps for it, and is now a good husband and takes care of his kids. I know some don't like Chipper, but when he is done, MLB will miss him.

Very nice! I purchased 2 boxes of the '91 OPC from the board buy to try my hand at a gem copy myself. I hope to find one in the first box and keep the other sealed, but I'll do both if needed.

I'm a Frank Thomas collector, but a Braves fan, and have a small collection of Chipper and Maddux; just higher end rookies and inserts.

Well, I hope you get one! Leaving a box sealed?? I couldn't do that if my life depended on it........

Yes, I had it with my Magic collection.......but when he hit 2500, I had to make a thread just for this. Which is your Chipper rookie reg set??? Whats your set name? Or reply with the link, I'd love to see that. Amazing!

Very Nice card with ridiculous centering. If you want to collect Chipper though, you have to start with the Desert Shield. '91 OPC and '91 Tiffany will always live in the shadows of Desert Shield. You can pick up a DS 9 for around $325-$350, but expect to pay closer to $400 if you want it centered like your OPC.
Successful transactions with: thedutymon, tsalems1, davidpuddy, probstein123, lodibrewfan, gododgersfan, dialj, jwgators, copperjj, larryp, hookem, boopotts, crimsontider, rogermnj, swartz1, Counselor

Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.

I will get a DS 9 in about 7 months. I'll have a few extra bucks to my name by then. But when I saw this OPC PSA 10, I just had to get it, don't know if and when I'd see another, and like you said, this well centered, couldn't let it go. And thanks for the comment!

Hey Goye! Is it bad of me to ask what you got for yours? I paid $300 for mine.

  • 189.00, wow I overpaid then. I figured that this would be about same market value price as Tiffany psa 10, which even has a higher pop count.
