1964 Wheaties Football Stamps Issue - Soaking/Pressing Completed

Hey All -

I just purchased this: Wheaties Stamp Book

As the description shows, the stamp pages are stuck to each other. The album is configured so that there are three pages of stamps in the front and three in the back. There is one front page and one back page showing, and the stamps look great. But the other pages are stuck together.

So, I am welcoming advice on how to unstick the pages with the hopes of being able to remove the stamps individually for placement in sleeves. The seller recommended steaming the pages. I'm worried that might wrinkle or stain these delicate stamps.

Thanks!
NAT

In case anyone is considering the soaking method (see above) to remove Wheaties Stamps attached to each other (not to the paper pages), it worked out well. I will need to re-soak two sheets, but the other four came out nice, and perforated into singles quite nicely. There is no more gum on the backs of the stamps, so I will not be subbing them, as I don't believe PSA will grade them, but I do have a neat looking set now.

I might try this with some beat up 61 and 62 topps stamps books now that are each half-full. Will let you know how that project turns out.

I am also thinking of picking up a 64 Wheaties baseball album with the stamps attached to the paper pages, and soaking the pages to see if I can pull off a nice set of them. I see albums go for around $40 on average.

  • Thanks for updating on how it worked out for you.

Ive soaked about 100 of the 1944 Yankee stamps (3 albums worth), they too come out nice minus the glue on back, far nicer than having pages stuck together like you described, or worse dry pulling them...
