Did this baseball card ('80 Topps #1) predict me and my wife's future? EDIT:And now (6/17) happy 10t

If you guys recall, I did a topic here a few years back about some baseball cards that appeared to predict the future. But the one me and my wife find most fascinating is the very first card in the 1980 Topps set. What's so special about it you might ask? Well, 1980 happens to be my birth year, and card #1 of that set commemorates my wife's favorite baseball player, Carl Yastrzemski getting his 3000th hit. But on top of THAT, my wife happened to be at Fenway Park in person to see Yaz get his 3000th hit (obviously my wife is a few years older than me)! Is that not amazing or what? image

And in case you're wondering, a few other highlights from that old thread:

* 1985 Fleer Bill Buckner showing a ball between his legs; the year before his infamous blunder in the World Series
* 1989 Topps Mark McGwire; the card is #70, and is the year in reverse ('89-->'98) when he hit 70 taters in a season
* The first perfect game pitched after I was born (in 1981) had batter number #17 make the final out.
* My wife's favorite player, Carl Yastrzemski is #8. What's so special about that? Well, my room number at UK was #208, my mailbox number was #158, and my first two apartment numbers were #8 (and my first apartment's address was 2003, the year I graduated from UK)!! Hint hint nudge nudge?

* As if this weren't strange enough, there's now a Brady Bunch episode that predicted our marriage (that happened to be one of my wife's favorite shows and she watched it while it was originally on)! In the episode "Never Too Old" (Season 4), Carol Brady mentions her grandmother as the "pride of Owensboro, Kentucky" (which is my hometown born and raised, and Florence Henderson went to high school in Owensboro too). No, I am NOT making that up; look up the episode on YouTube. The episode aired on March 9, 1973. March is my birth year, the 9th is Ted Williams' number and I was born almost exactly seven years later. And guess how many championships both my Wildcats and my wife's Red Sox have? image

I don't suppose there were any special Red Sox cards numbered #17 or #617 were there? One I found was in the 1990 Starline Long John Silvers set (my mother used to get those for me when I was 10 years old at the time) and it just so happens that card #17 in that set happens to be Wade Boggs (another one of my wife's favorites but isn't he like a traitor for going to the Evil Empire or something?)

The one which always struck me as too weird to be a mere coincidence: The starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox in game 7 when they lost the World Series in 1986 was BRUCE HURST. Rearranging all the letters in his name gives you: B. RUTH CURSE. And to top it off, the back of his baseball card says Hurst was born in a town named Saint George.

The one that always killed me around 2003-04 was being a Red Sox fan sitting in the bleachers, and whenever there was a pitching change, RF Gabe Kapler and CF Johnny Damon would stand next to each other and chat.

Kapler wore #19, Damon wore #18, so as they stood next to each other, the whole bleachers got to read their backs: "1918"

Man, that was painful at the time.

I like how it was discovered (20 years later) that Bill Buckner was wearing a Cubs batting glove under his mitt when he made his infamous error in 1986.

When my wife was watching a Red Sox game on her computer a couple days ago, there was a big jersey looking thing inside the dugout that read "617", which happens to be our anniversary! image What is the significance of that number in their case though? Back in 1989 I bought a hand collated 1989 Upper Deck set and discovered that there were 2 extra cards in the set. The extra cards were Larry Sheets and Tom Henke.

At the end of the season, the Blue Jays clinched the AL East when Tom Henke struck out Larry Sheets.

Here's one I just discovered...you guys remember the story about how my grandpa became an Indians fan in 1948 because he won a bet over who would win the pennant that year (he put up $10 against three other guys who each picked, Boston, New York, and Detroit)? Well, it just so happens that the Indians had to beat BOTH of the Boston teams to win the championship...Red Sox in the first ever pennant playoff for the AL, and the Boston Braves in the World Series. And as many of you know, my wife is from Boston! image

But not only that, Boston (as well as Cleveland!) each scored a combined total of 17 runs in that World Series...which happens to be our anniversary date (6/17 to be exact)! image

Here's a new one, Rex Chapman is a guest commentator for tonight's NCAA Final Four game...it just so happens he went to HS in my hometown (for my rival HS though), played a couple of seasons for UK, and at the time (I was 6-8 years old at the time) I was a HUGE fan of his! Why is that important? Well, remember how we were married on June 17? Well his points per game average was 17.6, our anniversary in reverse! And if you add the four digits in his averages in rebounds (2.6) and assists (3.6) at KY they add up to 17!! See for yourself! image

<< <i>Did you know President Lincoln had a cabinet member named Kennedy, and President Kennedy had a cabinet member named Lincoln? >>

And former Raiders OL Lincoln Kennedy bought a Lincoln that once belonged to president Kennedy.

With that being said, this is an extremely odd thread. Dude is grasping at straws.

<< <i>Here's a new one, Rex Chapman is a guest commentator for tonight's NCAA Final Four game...it just so happens he went to HS in my hometown (for my rival HS though), played a couple of seasons for UK, and at the time (I was 6-8 years old at the time) I was a HUGE fan of his! Why is that important? Well, remember how we were married on June 17? Well his points per game average was 17.6, our anniversary in reverse! >>

In Europe, they put the day before the month. So, I'm pretty sure that Rex Chapman is telling you that you and your wife should move to Europe.

Actually she did live in Europe and in Egypt when she was with her first husband (which sadly became absuive towards her image ). Would you believe when she was in Egypt she got to see Anwar Sadat in person (for those of you who don't remember your history classes he was President of Egypt during the Camp David Accords where Egypt became the first Arab country to recognize Israel as a legit nation) and ride on his personal yacht? No joke!

Well folks forgive me for being a little late for this announcement but I'm happy to announce that me and my wife just celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary this 6/17! image If you guys are curious as to what I got her, I got her a nice ring (3 ct fake diamond to represent three in our family) the blu-ray set of the Batman movies, as well as a beautiful silver/gold (not real silver/gold obviously) trophy that's 17 inches tall with a 6x6 base to match our wedding anniversary and on the front side of the base is a shiny red plate (her colors are red/black) that reads "CONGRATULATIONS DENISE for being the best wife you can be!" and on the back side is a shiny blue plate with my name on it, and on the left side is a shiny gold plate with my bestest friend's name Jamiee (his picture is below) and on the right side in shiny silver (to match her color) is our dearly departed Tweetie who went to kitty heaven back in 2012. image After all I figured this being the tenth annivesary I had to get her something super duper special right? image

In other way cool news Florence Henderson came to Owensboro last week to accept a wall/Hall of Fame honor as well as be in our annual Christmas parade. I really do think it was so awesome she gave a shout out to Owensboro in a Brady Bunch episode. image
