N6: MINIMUM SIZE REQUIREMENT for Gretzky Topps Rookie?

What do you do with a N6: MINIMUM SIZE REQUIREMENT for Gretzky Topps Rookie? New to this grading thing, had this card since I was 12 really surprised about the outcome. Took it to a PAS dealer who commented on how beautiful this card is. Hope it comes back in the same condition it was sent. Any feed back will help, also sent a Gordie "same year" out coming back as a 8.5. same year part of my complete set. Lastly what is the cause to make it N6.

All input is greatly appreciated.

    Morning,

    Welcome to the Re-submit Game!!!

Reason it came back N6 could be its actually just a tad short (Meaning 100ths of an inch), blatantly short, or who the Frick knows! As I said welcome to the Re-Sub Game.....if you do this much you'll learn it well !!!

image First off, welcome to the boards!!!

Like thedutymon said, you could try to re-submit it to PSA again and see if another grader has the same opinion. This works sometimes especially if you know the card hasn't been trimmed like in your case. When you get the card back, compare it to a couple of the other cards from that set and see if it appears slightly smaller. If that is the case, it was probably not cut correctly at the factory. I've seen people open fresh packs, submit the cards, and receive the dreaded "N6". It does happen.

You could also try sending it to Beckett or another grading service. I am not a big sub man, I like raw cards so maybe someone else on the board can steer you in the right direction as to alternative grading services. IMO I would try to resubmit it one more time especially if it does not seem smaller than any of your other hockey cards from that set.

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

PSA will send you a voucher since your card came up N6. My advice, resubmit the card, but don't use the voucher to pay for it! They might get the hint. image

    Afternoon,

And I forgot to mention, be Happy that you got an N6 because you get your money back in the way of a Voucher for free next card.

Wait until you bust a box of 36 packs you know haven't been opened or searched, spend hundreds of dollars, and sub 100 of them, pay hundreds more and have PSA tell you 36 of the hundred are EOT which means you are SOL!!!

N6's are a joke. I think they get assigned when the grader doesn't know what they're doing. I've been getting more and more N6s in recent years. I've had the same card go N6, N6, N1, N6, PSA 8. It's like throwing darts. Take enough chances and you'll finally win. Of course it might set you back $50 to get a card in the correct holder.

Did you open this card or get it from someone else? As mentioned welcome to the resubmit game, two or three times later you will get a grade.
  • Guys all the input is great. A little history about my Topps Hockey 1979-80 set. When I was 12, worked about 8 hrs a week for a local card shop. The owner open a wax box and put together this set, before it hit the self I was lucky receive it from my parents for my birthday. I left the hobby before this grading thing hit and there all my hockey sat in my fire proof safe. 24 years later N6. The PSA dealer who saw this set and this card really said that this should be graded. When I received this set the cards at that time were not even around for 10 years and Gretzky was in his prime but these cards were avialible and for about anywhere from $30-$60. My first submission was my 1977-1979 Gretzky Sportscaster Card which came back a 8.5. This card is on Ebay for 10G's for Gem Mint. Don't know about that price, but can't find this card anywhere except this guys Gem Mint. My Sportscaster cards were with me since they came in the mail since the 70s. It does feel strange sending my childhood treasures to some place accross the US, but I realy want these cards encased the proper way. The N6 was a shock I thought this was a mistake. Guys again thanks for the info.

Good luck with the Gretzky. Hopefully, it is the same size as the other cards you have and wasn't miscut at the factory.

Also, someone here would like to say hello.

This is in for a 4th (and final attempt) - straight from a pack... Otherwise off to Beckett or SGC.

Is that Orr card tilted a little, or is it my eyes?
