I just got scammed

So I buy an item, and ask the seller if he has any more to sell, he says yes 3 more and I offer him an additional $20 he says fine paypal him.
So I know I made a mistake by sending paypal gift to someone I don't know but his feedback is like 10000. Anyway long story short he not only dosen't send me the 3 additional items, but he ships me an empty box. I am pretty upset did I just waste $20 to give this guys a negative. I can't believe this guy.

He's not very bright as I don't think twenty dollars is worth the negative you give him to his rating. Did you also pay for the item you won on eBay using the gift designation? If not, you can at least file a claim regarding that. For the other 3 items unfortunately you are out of luck.

10,000+ feedback sellers usually wouldn't try something like that. The higher their rating, the more damaging the potential feedback would be. I'm guessing its an honest mistake. Keep pinging him until he fixes it. Can't imagine he wouldn't.

I am waiting for his reply before I get specific on here, i paid normal for the first item. He didn't specify gift I was just being nice, and aparently stupid. Anyway he dosen't seem to have as many item listed as before maybe he dosen't plan on selling much more on that account for a while.
He was corresponding normal with me until I sent him the $20 then he wouldn't reply back that was the first sign of trouble.

You don't get to 10,000 feedback by pulling scams. Probably some kind of mistake. I can't imagine ruining ones reputation for $20. Perhaps for big money but not $20.

I doubt the seller would want to tarnish his feedback for a $20 item. I would definately contact the seller about it.

Just chill out and wait on his reply. Sounds like an honest mistake.

Most big sellers that do hundreds and sometimes thousands of transactions monthly wouldn't know where the Paypal gift came from and for what. Remember, they have a structure to their business so when a gift opposed to a ebay sale shows up in their Paypal account, it likely threw them for a loop. Although gifting the purchase was nice, it is likely best for smaller sellers.

I just found it strange that he wouldn't reply to 2 messages after I sent the money and then an empty box. He ended the other item like it he had for sale,so I took that as I sign he was sending it. On a side not he sent it media mail, guess 4 pieces of wadded up newspaper qualifies as media.image

    OK now this is interesting
first postage is $3.18 for media mail, no way it weighed that much when I got it.
Looking at the tape on the bottom it appears to have been cut. then resealed with a new piece of tape.
I really think a postal worker might have stolen the items, or maybe because it was sent media mail it was inspected(doubtful)
I think the address sticker that says cards is a bad idea.
something isn't right about this one

The thing is it isn't hard to pay for postage then take something out and reseal it and drop it in a drop box so you never know whether it was the seller or a postal worker.

    No good deed goes unpunished.

I'm thinking the snafu is because this guy had to use media mail.

    The PO frowns on that.

    Good for you.

Did these items qualify for media mail? If not, and the p.o. inspected and busted him, either it would be RTS or postage due.

Yes, postal workers are allowed to open and verify Media mail. If the
postage was $3.18, it was a heavier box when shipped.

But would an inspector open the package to check the contents, remove the contents, seal the package back, and send it on it's way?

First you said you received an empty box. Then you said something about 4 pieces of wadded up newspaper. Stupid question, but any chance the cards were in the wadded up newspaper.

    Planemonkey,

What is the latest with the seller's response? Does he claim that he put the cards in there? Has he written back?

Perhaps the Postal workers realizing the contents did not qualify as media mail and believing the sender was aware of that fact decided to teach him a lesson by removing the contents and sending the package on its way.

Just got your message that your box that you received was empty that we sent. I checked the receipt from the post office and the weight
was 15.40 oz. for the package we sent. I am going to check with my post office to see if they will contact your Post Office. I'll be back to you in a couple of days.
    Sorry for any inconvenience.

We'll see what happens in a couple of days.
