Very nice site filthy, thanks for sharing.
  • Thanks guys!image

It really is fun, and a lot easier than I thought to set up a site. Now the info part....much more difficult. There is a real lack if available information about these things compared with coins.

    That's very cool, thanks! image
  • Very well done site Filthy. Great graphics, super Jeatons and, of course at least one Jeaton you need to sell me image
No,no- the kids and the cat are all right honey.
It's just that I got my PCGS grades.

You're starting to see what a diverse group they really are, I'd guess. It's a different world from collecting coins by grades or conditions.image

Oh, and Canadacolornut- If it's the one I'm thinking of, stick around, I may be able to help.image

    Thanks everyone!!
  • Its a whole new ballgame FB , i'm treading carefully before making my first venture into the realms of Jetons , besides the Louis 16th one i stumbled on of course. It looks positively primitive in comparison to others.
I really have to weigh this one up as this week i offloaded a few stunning examples of Conders in order to provide funds for a Jeton , the Conders were ones i had two of the same , instances where i'd upgraded. The biggest surprise is they went for peanuts , it's as if the American market for conders was asleep this week.I was pretty disappointed but resolved to sell no more on the US market as it's fickle at best. Dealers like to put fancy pricetags on them but try to sell one lol dunno what i'm laughing at ..i got less than half of what id paid.

Excellent work. I wish I could build one for mine.

Ouch! It wasn't Ebay, was it? I quit auctions there a long time ago because I'd never get near the prices that I thought they should get, even when others were getting better prices. It's just been too risky that way for me. The market can be very unkind, believe me!

I like to stick with those official isssues now, the really high quality engraving they put out at the Paris mint can be amazing! I wouldn't think that there's any real hurry in deciding though, the market is very mild on these versus coins, so you shouldn't have to jump on anything thinking it'll be gone tomorrow. Don't quote me on thatimage I've watched a couple of higher-end jetons for nearly a year until I got the money to move on them.

But then again, there are a couple of very popular designs that tend to go fast, the UFO jeton comes to mind.

You really should, the hardest part for me was just deciding I could do it myself. That, and all the research.image It's been a lot of fun, and with the simple design programs they have now, it couldn't be much easier.
  • Ok...now i'm hooked. Ive seen the UFO coin , i didn't know what it was or that it was anything else other than some kind of modern sci fi event token. Id forgotten all about it until just now when i read your post. The item i seen was definately French i remember that , it showed a UFO or a wheel of sorts emerging or going into clouds. If i'm right i think i just made the connection and i know the one you mean. It was on a Mystery/Crime kind of forum a few years back , there was a thread about one.I don't think anyone recoqnised it as a Jeton.

Yeah..it was on ebay FB , the conders i mean , i'll know better in future.I should have put them on the BST.Its funny , good chance one or more of my ex tokens might make an appearance on the forum boards lol especially the HT token i let go , nicer than some ive seen shown off.

Very nice looking site, I look forward to watching it grow. It would also be great to have links to larger images to view. Great job!

I haven't figured out yet how to link larger pics yet, unless I do it through a photo gallery. I'll be checking into that as I had another request for larger pics, too.

Jamesmurray - Apparently there are two different varieties of the UFO jeton. I have pics saved somewhere, I'll have to look for them. I've really only seen two examples for sale in the last couple of years, so it's a hard find for those and I haven't been lucky enough to pick one up yet. I first read about them on a UFO conspiracy site, not sure how I came across that one.image

Oh, and if anyone sees one of these UFO jetons for sale, please let me know.image

FilthyBroke, That's a really nice eye appealing site image
To Err Is Human.... To Collect Err's Is Just Too Much Darn Tootin Fun!
  • This is the one i seen at the time i believe

    image
  • Yep, that's one, and here's the other -

    image

But unfortunately, I believe the design was meant to be viewed this way, and it's a shield that is shown protecting a city (ruins the mystery that way, doesn't it?) -

Very Nice site. I really need to get back to labeling and getting descriptions on a lot of my smaller pieces. image

Now that's a project that I should be working on, too. I have a ton of stuff here that's begging to be categorized and labeled. I'll do it tomorrow.image

The plot thickens.. it's undoubtably the same "object" depicted albeit minor differences , your example i agree can be viewed as you say in two ways and both make sense. However the one in the sketch ( if in fact it exists ) can't be explained away quite as easily.
Im wondering now if the the artist that sketched the one i posted used a little artistic license or is there actually different ones.

The question does remain though ... protecting the city from what ?

HERE is where I first heard of these two jetons. And the one you posted is an actual jeton, as you wil see a picture of one in the link. It's an interesting read, in the sense that people get different impressions after seeing the same thing.

You raise a good question though - protection from what? A storm? Invaders from beyond? (cue Twilight Zone intro)image
  • I really wish I had one of those in-hand to check the die orientation. That would solve whether it's upside down or not.
  • Thanks for the link FB , i got about 2 pages in and had to make a post office run in order to minimize the ebay shipping times threads on the US forum : )
I think one reply stands out so far for me , the story about the shield , that to me has credibility , much more than a UFO. I fully intend returning to the thread to read it through to its conclusion but the "its a shield" story is looking good.
