    ok here's a thought:

    dude wants a pretty card so badly that he might be willing to overpay with the expectation of receiving the equivalent of a PSA 9 in raw form, so he pays 10 bucks more than average.

    but wait.

    what about the money he saves by not attempting to cut open a slab with a typical household item, like say, a hacksaw.

    of course, he couldn't own a vice, he's a baseball card collector, not a carpenter or a craftsman.

    so, he just drapes the slab across the arm of the couch and cuts.

    it's a tossup whether he's going to saw into the furniture and require a repair or replacement, but it would cost substantially more to reattach his hand and get the bloodstains out of the carpet.

    i think this was a very wise purchase myself.
