1976 Topps Baseball Vending Break

If anyone is interested in the sort of population you may see, here is a box I bought from BBCE. Two things struck me as odd, but I am no 70's vending expert. 1) All of the Traded cards were at one end of the box (there were around 40 cards of these). 2) There were instances when 2 cards of the same player appeared consecutively. I'd say this happened around 6x throughout the box - maybe this is statistically appropriate or relates to how they are loaded, I'm not sure. Anyway here were the "hits":

Winfield x1
Brett x1
Fergie x1
Perez x1
Guidry x1
McCovey x1
Perry x1
Rose x2
Munson x2
Schmidt x1
Cobb x2
Big Train x1
Aaron RB x1
Catfish x2
Eckersley x1
Brooks x2
Yaz x2
Fisk x1
Torre x1
Fingers x2
Sutton x1
Carew x2
Grove x2
Goose x1
Brock x1
Blyleven x1
Fergie Traded x2
Seaver RB x1

I am not sure about the sequencing of vending although that does seem peculiar to me. I have only opened 77s. Are there any gradeable cards of note? How was the condition of the cards overall?
  • I'll scan some. Corners were almost always sharp, many o/c which I guess is common in these boxes.

Try those scans with a black background. Can't really tell much the way they look on white

    Munson and Eck look great.

How is the bottom right on Brett?

At least the Brett is nicely centered. That card is a beast to get nicely centered.

  • What's up with the Rose booger? Is that normal and would it come with qualifier if graded?

Nice Munson and I agree, the Brett is a pain to get centered.

The Brett is also tough to get without the little black specs and yours looks clean.
Somewhere there is a gem example of that card......

Here is a link to an uncut sheet on ebay that has the traded series - wouldn't explain the back to back doubles, but since the traded are all on one sheet, along with some of the other stars you got doubles of, it might explain the grouping at the end of the box (and why they weren't elsewhere).
