If you’re attending the Whitman Baltimore Coin & Collectibles Expo (through April 3), you’re in for a rare treat. This Saturday, April 2, at 2:00 in the afternoon, award-winning authors Leonard Augsburger and Joel Orosz will talk about the making of their new book and the uncovering of its story. The Secret History of the First U.S. Mint tells how Frank H. Stewart destroyed—and then saved—a national numismatic treasure.
Who was Stewart? Did his efforts to preserve the memory of the first Mint redeem his failure to preserve its actual structures? Orosz and Augsburger connect the facts and bust the myths that have confused scholars for decades. You’ll also marvel at a special exhibit of unique artifacts they discovered in their research.
The Secret History of the First U.S. Mint is packed with sketches, paintings, and photographs that have been preserved in archival collections for decades, and have not been seen by living numismatists until now. Copies of the book will be available at the show; bring yours to the April 2nd presentation (Room 301 of the Baltimore Convention Center) to have it autographed by the authors.
Coauthors Len Augsburger and Joel Orosz
