Old ANA slabbed 1897 Barber Dime

I saw this today and really liked it. I know these old slabs are known for causing and/or enhancing colorful
toning... What do you all think? Maybe it started out in a Wayte Raymond album?

  • Beautiful! Those old ANA Slabs toned the coins nicely, IMO -

to get ms62, it must have some type of hidden flaw? image

I'd crack it, dip it, and get it in the right plastic too.

There's a small hit on the cheek... that's about the biggest flaw I can spot.
I wouldn't trade the color for a white example but am curious if PCGS would cross the coin.

Bad advice. Dipping that coin would likely result in a POS. There is nothing wrong with those alpha-numeric ANACS holders. They hold their value just fine.
Need a Barber Half with ANACS photo certificate. If you have one for sale please PM me. Current Ebay auctions

Nice coin! Nothing wrong with the coin or the holder. The ANA slabs with lettered SNs have a decent amount of respect. Fine just the way it is, I think.

I've always been partial to these ANA slabs. In my experience, they're either right on the money for the grade
or 1 point below PCGS standards. I have a nice collection of about 10 of them. I'd be curious to know if PCGS
would cross this coin because they are my slab of choice if I'm keeping the coin but will probably not pony up the
extra fee they charge for the "crossover". This one will likely stay as is... I would like to find an original ANA box
so I could keep a nice set of 20 slabs.
  • Looks good right where it is. When you cross coins there is a bias against other TPG services.

    Sweet dime Meltdown.

I agree with NH484000 the old ANA holder could have caused that toning.
