Celebrating the 30th anniversary of "The Longest Game"

We are less than 3 weeks away from April 18, 2011, which will be the 30th anniversary of the longest game in professional baseball history. On April 18, 1981, Rochester and Pawtucket would play 32 innings until 4:07 a.m. when the game was called. The game would be completed in one inning on June 23rd.
I had planned on posting some things about the game itself as we got closer but just learned of a new book that looks like it will be a great read. Dan Barry of the NY Times has written a book entitled "Bottom of the 33rd". The PawSox Facebook page had a link to the following blog article with information about the book and an article with Dan:

I have a page on my website with newspaper articles about the game for those interested:

Ha, he looks like a chubby Tom Brady.
If you are looking for great reading material, I highly recommend "Bottom of the 33rd", and not because my site was mentioned in the book. It is a fantastic read about so much more than the game itself. It is a book about like, determination and hope. For those with a summer reading list I think you would enjoy it.

Here are team signed sheets from both clubs that I bought years ago from a collector in Charleston, SC who had every IL team sign one as they came through town that summer...
Happy Anniversary

CBS News had a segment about the game on their evening news. Segment is posted online. An interview with two men who did not leave the park. Good stuff.
