2011 LINCOLN SHIELD CENTS IN PCGS HOLDERS
What is your opinion of the decision PCGS and the dealers have made to holder the 2011 Shield cents with the reverse on the front of the holder and the label printed as "first strike" or in bunting of the red, white and blue American flag? I for one, being a collector of PCGS holdered Lincoln cents want to see the coins with their date and mintmark showing on the front of the holder along with the label which shows the grade. That is the way ALL Lincoln cents had been holdered by PCGS since the company started in 1986. We all know that in 2009 there were four different reverses for the Lincoln cent and in 2010 a new shield reverse was used for the first time replacing the memorial reverse from 2008. I could understand putting the reverse designs of the Lincoln cent on the front of the holder in 2009 and even 2010. It is now 2011. For the forseeable future the shield reverse will be the reverse used. I think PCGS should return to putting the obverse portrait of Lincoln along with the date and mintmark on the front of its holder. As long as PCGS continues to use the blue label for its current coins it should also return to using the blue label on the Lincoln cent for its basic distribution. If some dealers feel they can sell these "first strike" and "bunting" labels to some customers, fine. But as a long time Lincoln cent collector, I want to see PCGS return to holdering the Lincoln cent like they did in 2008 and all prior years back to 1909. JMHO. Steve

...perhaps it is time for a choice of holders the collector may want their coins slabbed in. if you want the reverse
to be shown with the label or the regular way.

Steve, you say PCGS and dealers made this "decision". Has PCGS said somewhere that this is their standard practice for 2011 shield cents? Or did you just encounter some and are guessing about some policy change? (Not being a smarta$$...just wondering.)
Lance.
<< <i>This surprises me. I don't like it either.

Lance,
I don't know who made the decision, but I am sure that when the dealers can't sell the coin in the current configuration, they will let PCGS KNOW, they will then send them back to be reholdered the correct way. If any Lincoln cent dealers read this and care to comment ON THE TRUE FACTS of this, I'm sure the collectors here would like to know. Thanks.

If I actually did collect modern Lincolns slabbed, I agree that I'd want them heads up and that mention of the shield reverse would be superfluous.
