Great looking card! Are you going to be submitting that?
Jeff
I need to research these more. The pop report has a ton in PSA 9 and a few in PSA 10.
If this had better centering it would grade very high.
Jeff
Good thing is that if there is one you can flatten it out.
Good luck with the grading David!
Mullins you are absolutely correct. The 86 Panini is a very flimsy sticker and the 87 is much more like a card.
Tyson cards are under owned and are going higher for certain.
Here is an example that I self submitted.

The population states there are four PSA 10's but I have never seen one surface. Because of the harder card stock this example is much easier to find in strong condition. I have been actively looking for the other two variations and found a guy who had one for sale and received it in the mail yesterday. It has a card stock that is very similar to the 1986 sticker that is extremely flimsy and is more like a traditional sticker. There have only been 5 of these graded by PSA in comparison to 40 of the more common version.
Here is the scan of it.

The third variation has another person on the back with the last name Gritti and is numbered 114. I am still working on locating one of those as well. There are only six of these graded so far by PSA. I plan to send this newly found example in soon.
With the purchase I also bought this 1996 Sky Sports Merlin #217 Mike Tyson. It doesn't appear that any of these have been graded by PSA.

I just went and looked at them and they are mixed with the soft backs and hard backs in the same packs.
The hard backs appear to be more like an actual card. I am not certain if you can pry them apart or not but it doesn't appear that way in hand. Clearly the soft backs can be.
Interesting stuff.
<< <i>Jeff about a year and a half ago some packs of these showed up on EBAY and I bought three.

That is very interesting, D. I'm glad you opened some packs first hand - that clears my question up. Do you remember what the card-to-sticker distribution was like? Was it was one sticker per pack?
Jeff
The only thing that would make sense to me with why the Tyson is so hard to find is most were probably stuck to the sticker albums.
I am going to try and peal apart a hard card stock card and see what happens.
I only had 18 stickers from the packs and all of the backs of the hard card stock are soccer players of the 9 in my stash.
You would indeed be able to pull the face off the more common Tyson card and place that in a sticker album and perhaps collectors at the time saved the hard card stock examples and used the supersport backs for their albums.
There is obviously more to this story that we don't know.
Jeff
I need to add the Tyson and Gritti to my collection to have all three.

87 Panini
This example popped up last night and looks to have great centering. I emailed the seller as he had a $500 buy it now to see if he would take lower. He added the best offer feature and accepted my $330 offer which is what the other one sold for.
87 Panini PSA 10
I am pumped about getting this card!
Also, in looking at the eBay listing, there was a link to this item (which is actually on the Mets mlb.com store). How cool is this for the mid-1980s New Yorker?
<< <i>Great pickup.

Such a great item!
Being from Florida we didn't have a team in 86 so it was either like the Braves or pick a team and the Mets were my team. The wall of my bedroom was covered in sports posters and Darryl Strawberry was my guy. I still have the binder that stores hundreds of his cards from the 80's and early 90's.
I would imagine that before there were MLB teams in Florida, the most common situation was that you were a fan of whichever was the home team during spring training. Since the players are pretty accessible during spring down there, it was probably easy to like a team where you got to meat the guys on that team?

That sounds logical. The Minn. Twins played spring training in Orlando and we were also home to their Double AA minor league team.
Obviously I liked Kirby Pucket but the Mets had Doc Gooden and the Straw Man.
We have discussed it many times on this board but it never gets old. Chasing Doc Gooden cards in 1985 was a ton of fun!
I think one of the great things about collecting cards as a kid is you learn about markets and items of value. It helps sharpen your business skills at a young age which in my view is a good thing.
This is a super strong card. Razor sharp corners, great centering and good back centering too. It is a very solid 10. I love crossing cards like this off my want list.
The same card that was auctioned off by PWCC in early March is back up for sale but this time it is Probstein.
I can't believe this card came up for sale. It is a Pop 1 in a PSA 9 and by far the hardest variation of this card to find. In my last submission I sent in my only copy knowing it would grade very low but just wanted a copy.
There are only seven copies ever graded by PSA. WOW this is exciting to add this to my collection!!!

I am really curious why some have three variations. If you look at the population report it shows three for Jordan, two for Bird and Jabbar, three for Holyfield, two for Chavez, two for Agassi, two for McEnroe, and only one for Johnson and Lewis.
If anyone is an expert on Panini stickers please chime in.
This just came in the mail today. I saw in the listing it was an older scratched holder so I will definitely at some point pay to get it re holdered.
I uploaded both pics to my set. I am working on Tyson through 1991

I guess we can just chalk this up to the PWCC effect. I like seeing one of these in an 8 go for $260 but can't say I ever saw this coming.
The second PSA 10 I purchased went for less then this.
It isn't that often that these show up for sale. Nice to see it get a strong price of $165.
I was kind of bummed to see this listing pop up today as now the Gritt back is a Pop 2. It will be interesting to see what kind of price this gets.

The Gritti back is in RAS's set and didn't sell publicly so very hard to tell where the market for this example is. The seller listed it at a price where I assume they have some knowledge of how much tougher the Gritti back is and especially in high grade. There are currently only 2 PSA 9's and no 10's vs. the more common Bianchi back that has 37 PSA 9's and 6 PSA 10's. The Supersport back has the same number of copies graded at 11 and 4 of those are PSA 9's with no 10's. Every time I see a Gritti back on EBAY I try and buy it. With these foreign issues it is hard to find information so no idea why Panini issued three copies of some of the bigger names in the set.

Nice to see Tyson items getting strong prices of late. This example went for $300.

In honor of Mike Tyson, specifically in his Punch Out days...
Ah yes. A classic. I can still go through the entire game from glass joe to tyson himself and beat the game. A sealed original copy of Mike Tyson's punch out is currently on Ebay going for $ 29,999.
Hello, I’m a collector of Tyson cards and this board has been helpful. Anyone interested in selling their 2009 GOLD mike tyson sports king card? Yes, there are two on eBay but both are overpriced and the guy won’t budge a $1
Fresh record for this Tyson in a 10
