How long did he have these coins in his collection? In the article, Laura alluded she didn't know about the collection? How could this guy accumulate this collection without being on someone's radar? Aren't you glad you play golf?
The CBH is a proof. The gentleman bought his last coin shortly after the Eliasberg sale in 1997 - he owned the Eliasberg 1895 and 1899 proof Morgans and the 1799/8 bust dollar. It was more a type accumulation than an actual type set - he had multiple Morgans but nothing between cents and halves.
Here's something curious - not a single coin in the deal went up a point despite not being graded since the mid 90's. IMO, it's tough to upgrade finest knowns.

I was surprised as well, i guess she had an off week back then. Makes me think there are still plenty of nice coins that many are not aware of.

Yes, that 1893 proof Morgan is exceptional, both in terms of preservation and manufacture. Of all the amazing cameo proof coins I've ever seen from that era, I think the years 1893 and 1898 were the finest. I think the mint was at the top of their game during those 2 years.

<< <i>That Morgan and FE are awesome!
Exactly!!
That proof eagle is to die for. I'm not a huge fan of trueviews but that one is spectacular.
Is the CBH a business strike or proof? I can't be sure. Probably a proof, based on the others.

For those into proof gold, there is a great example of "orange-peel" toning on the 1900 eagle, especially above "TEN".

Hi,
that orange peel is ALL tone and not indicative of texture at all?

Dave,
You've got to work on that tunnel vision.
The $10 looks like a 66 and the 1827 a proof.
Sometimes I think your taste is in your mouth.
And of course the Morgan is outstanding

<< <i>TDN, what was your thoughts on the quality of the 1900 pcgs PR 67 cam lib? >>
The $10? I thought it should have +'d. I almost kept it, I liked it so much. Just the way proof gold should look like.
