Probably the easiest and quickest way without books is type what you have into an ebay search , the descriptions usually indicate the composition. Google will do the same thing for you , all kinds of web sites with the info you require like this one. database
I've often use a flip test, not sure how reliable it is though. Flip a normal coin, then flip a 90% silver coin, the silver coin a definate ring to it if you get it do 'ding'. Also works for less silver. Useful for sorting through 'junk' lots sold by the kilo. Of course to be sure Krause is the best way.
I asked a similar question a while back and someone led me to this site. There's a link on there that says "Find My Coin" Click that and enter the information and it gives you all the pertinent info...even tells you the silver content.
