This 1818/7 large 8 variety has stunning detail and very few hits. The die crack from rim through star 11 says it's an O.101a. But...
...the obverse has faint hairlines from the wipe that can be seen at a certain angle, and a scuff of hairlines on Liberty's chin. The reverse has no hairlines and is actually very acceptable. This coin was probably in an album and kept shiny by its owner. I suspect it may have been dipped as well.
Impressive strike with nice, crisp lettering and banner, fully formed stars, nice die alignment. Somewhat brighter than the photos too. Would make a nice album example.
PCGS price guide for problem-free AU55 is $1750. MS60 is $2900.
