Anyone here have know about old bonds?

I have three(3) old bonds and are trying to find info on them can anyone help/direct me to the right place?

are you looking to see if they are stilll cashable or are you looking for collector value?


sometimes a brokerage can dig up info and tell you if they are still negotiable.

The bonds I have are from 1899,1907 & 1910 although they are not canceled I am trying to find out what the collector value is

Even though your bonds do not have Cancelled on them or such, it does appear
that they were paid. The coupons show that some had been paid, and I'd bet that
the bond was recalled and paid off shortly after your last redeemed coupon.
They are really neat. I don't know about the value as a collectible. I would guess
that there is little value. I've researched a lot of old US and State bonds and find
that 99.99% were paid in full. Many of those that were never paid off were terminated
by act of legislature or congress.
For instance, I have a bond issued by the State of Nevada for $1,000 with all coupons
attached. An inherited piece. Never paid and never collected on. Upon exhaustive
research I found that the State Legislature had forced an expiration of the bonds that
had not been redeemed after 50 years. Worthless. Oh well, so much for a great
retirement! If it's too good to be true it probably is.

I'd suggest the following:

1) Post these on the currency forum. Some of the folks that hang out there collect bonds, too.

2) PM member JimFitz. He's with Spink-Smythe, an auction house that often sells bonds. They're likely to have someone in-house who can advise re: the value.

3) Contact George LaBarre at LaBarre Galleries in Hollis, NH. He's one of the most active bond dealers around, and (sometimes) handles international issues such as these, as well.

Looks like you have some nice ones there. Foreign bonds don't usually bring as much as US, but who knows?!?

Hi, thanks for the info I Just spoke with JimFitz from Spink-Smythe auction house

afterward I called Chris LaBarre from LaBarre Galleries in Hollis, NH he's Georges son I spent about a 1/2 hour talking with him on the phone he's Georges son


The info I received is quite interesting......Jim from Spink-Smythe told me he thinks the value for all three(3) are about $15-$30 each bond.....

the part I find to be interesting is Chris Labarre from LaBarre Galleries.... after speaking with him for a half hour told me he would give me $1000 for all three(3) bonds and that the bond dated 1899 is the rarer of the three(3) of the bonds that I have....

I went on to Labarre Galleries website and search to see what the have as far as Mexican bonds and found this....1899 Repulica Mexicana

I also decided to give eBay a shot after I got a little bit more information and I found this auction on eBay......Another 1899 Republica Mexicana bond

I have still yet to find out anything about the bonds from 1907 & 1910 but the bond I have that is dated 1899 has really got me

Good research and way to go!

Perhaps you got real lucky with at least the one bond from 1899.

Hope the four figure value is correct (or maybe the 5 figure??).

Take care of them, condition does matter for sure.

I hope so! I may be able to find out for sure tomorrow a local antiques dealer I called said he has decent knowledge of old bonds so going to visit him tomorrow & hope for the best

For the 1899 at least, consign it to a major bond auction house and see what you can get for it.

Mexican issues are quite popular right now. Spoke with a dealer last week at the Sacramento ANA show. He went to the Mexico City show last month (?). Said he sold EVERYTHING he brought with him!
