psa grading

I am going to start going through all of my 60s and 70s cards that I have had squirreled away since 1990. I think many of them will be worthy of being graded. My question is how much does it cost to have cards graded? Is it cheaper to have them graded in quantity. I am completely in the dark about card grading. Thanks Ahaas Grandpa

Your best option is to sub in bulk through one of the specials. Right now its 5 bucks for. Cards worth less than 100 bucks. You also get 6 free subs when you join. Use that for the higher value cards. You could spend more on higher sevices but unless you need the cards back in a week or have something very valueable i wouldnt bother

  • Sometime over the next few weeks (I tend to move slowly on these types of things) I'm planning to contact PSA to find out exactly how many cards would be needed to get a rate of $4.25 or $4.00 per card. I have no problem organizing a large group sub, and I have approximately 160-180 cards of my own to send in. That number could grow to close to 200 before it's all said and done.
  • Eagle and Crazy: Thanks for the response. At 5 bucks a pop the cards have to be well worth something. How do I get a current price of what cards are going for now. Also are cards selling pretty good from the 60s and 70s or is it a pretty stagnent market? I would hate to pay 500 bucks and find that the cards are not selling. Thanks

You might want to send in a smaller sample of your better cards first to confirm the graders at PSA and you are on the same page as to the quality of your cards. Also follow sales on ebay for a time. There is also VCP which I understand is a fine product. (I don't have it because I seldom make purchases and am focused on one product I am familiar with.) When your first group of cards come back you will have an idea of their value.

another great option is getting involved in a group sub on the boards. Its a great way to save on shipping. I've had great experiences with group subs on the boards. As far as prices go the best thing to do is just check completed auctions on ebay. that will give you actual prices peopled paid for the cards. VCP is good too but i think for what you are looking for the free option by checking ebay will be fine. Unless you took incredible care of your cards for the past 50 years.. i would expect most cards that you think are "mint" are prob in the psa 6-8 range and nm in the 4-6 range. A 9 or 10 really has to be perfect. You could open a whole box of cards and not get card that would grade 10.

    Very good advise!

If you have the ability/equipment to scan some of your cards and post the pictures on here, we could help you get a better idea of what you have, and what is worth sending in to get graded. Good luck!
