1954 Parkhurst Wrestling Poppage (#1 on registry now!!!)

I am pretty happy because this will complete my set at 100% and I will eventually upgrade at least seven of the cards and I would like this to be a pure biography back set instead of having lucky premium backs so those cards will exchanged for biography backs.

    I am most excited about not only having a 1950s set complete, but also should be able to take over the number one slot on the set registry from the guy that won last years badge as the finest set.

    What a disapointment on the Gagne!! A true PSA 8 would be at least $350 or more. Glad you got these graded and keep the spirit of old school wrestling cards alive!!!

    The Parkhurst cards are building steam and will slowly gain value over time. This is a real winner I think; especially graded!

    I do scan everything, thanks for the compliment and thanks for looking.

    The Parkhurst set is a tough one in decent grade...a 5 is practically a 7 as the card stock is poor and there are a bunch of things wrong with the cards. Centering, printers marks, and just plain old bad card stock. I'm excited to finish a complete set from the 1950s and to have the best set out there. I hope to get a GPA of 6 one day but at the moment I am shooting for PSA 5 with all biography backs instead of premium backs. The premium backs do not have the name of the wrestler on the card and only an advertisement. I like to read about the wrestler and appreciate the history of the sport.

    I think that PSA is a bit inconsistent on grading these off center or not. I've seen some that did not get a qualifier that should have and the ones I sent were not as bad. I'll see when I get them.

    One can ask for no qualifiers.

    Yes, it will be official sometime today. I had to report a cert that matches the composite, and that will finally allow me to be at 100% and take over the number slot on the registry. I have a total GPA of 5.57 and the other guy has a 5.53. I do not know if he is happy with his set or if we will be engaging in competition. I graded a few that I thought were questionable and probably below a five but with it being fairly close to May I wanted to take a chance at getting the badge for 2011. I plan to upgrade anyways so might as well start now. I have been able to sell my previous slabbed cards even if they were graded below a five rather easily.

    The card I will be adding is a PSA 7 so I will get a bit more breathing room although it is quite close overall.

    Great job!!! It's fun to spot all the old traditional wrestling family names, although you're never quite sure if families are really families in that line of work.
