No love for 1966 Topps Batman PSA 7s?

Hello. this is my first post.
I'm a noob non-sports card collector, and I'm slowly collecting the 1966 Topps Batman cards (Blue, Black and Red bats). I've noticed that on eBay, PSA 7s barely sell for what it costs to get the card "slabbed," while PSA 8s sell for sometimes quadruple that amount.
I thought maybe it was all just supply and demand, but according to the pop report on the PSA website, the number of 7s is (in many cases) equal to the the number of 8s.
So here are my questions:
Can anyone tell me why Topps Batman PSA 7s seem to have been snubbed by the slabbed-card collecting community?
Are "raw" NM (7) Topps Batman cards not worth"slabbing"?
If the only cards being slabbed are 8s (and, I guess the occassional 9), won't this eventually bring PSA 8 prices down when supply exceeds demand?
Thanks!

You need to just be patient. I've been putting together PSA 8 sets of the 1966 Batman cards for a year or so. For a while, I couldn't buy any, as the bids were going about my set upper limit price. The competition disappeared, as I won 3 black bats PSA 8s yesterday and today.
Welcome to the boards!
As the person who probably submitted more of the Batman Cards than anybody in History (Approx 1000-1500), you need to understand that somebody doesn't normally sub a card expecting to get a 7, expectations are usually higher.
Also while the commons in the Black Bat set nowdays are probably only worth about grading fees, the #1, #2, and #50 (Notoriously Miscut, I once had a Vending Box with 13 examples of #50, not a single one worth grading), and perhaps a few others.
Answer to your question about subbing Raw NM 7's, the answer is yes, it is Not worth subbing cards that you think will only grade at NM 7. Over the last 3-4 years I have deminished a lot of my Grading canditates because of the likes of 4SC and some others, there are just too many graded now, and 1950-1970 Non Sport Card collectors, I think the numbers are at some sort of plateau.
I think this will change in the next few years after the economy mellows out a bit and then I think the hobby will see some resurgence and hopefully see some new blood come in to it!!
Oh and for some perspective on the prices going down, 4 years ago I sold the #1 registered Set of 1966 Batman Black Bat for $16,777.00, today I think the guy who bought it would be lucky to get a third of that in a resale!
Neil
Kevin, was that you outbidding me the other night?
I can understand people submitting cards hoping for 8s and getting 7s instead. It's too bad those 7s are so undesired. Another set I'm interested in seems to suffer the same problem, the Topps Battle cards.
I have a few raw cards I think may be 7s or 8s. I suppose it is the noob right-of-passage to submit them and await the grading wake-up call.
As far as value goes, I understand collectors not wanting their cards to depreciate. But as you mentioned, Neil, there seem to be quite a few factors at work (no new blood, overabundance of graded cards, etc.)
I get a big kick out of the Topps Batman, but I also want to make smart purchases.
I actually have a full set of black bat, and near sets of the A & B series. The catch is that they are some of the most used/abused cards you'll ever
see. They were the first cards that I collected when I was a kid, even before I started doing baseball.
Something that I've done was buy PSA 4 or less cards. You can get these cheap, then upgrade later as better grade cards appear.
By the way, if your cable system has the HUB channel, you can watch the 60's Batman on it.
IMO now is a great time to be buying that set in 7.
Nicely centered examples. Not net graded flunkies.
Welcome to the boards btw!
Steve
I hear what you're saying, Steve: "Buy the card and not the grade," right?
Can you clue me in on what "net-graded flunkies" are?
Currently collecting 1934 Butterfinger, 1969 Nabisco, 1991 Topps Desert Shield (in PSA 9 or 10), and 1990 Donruss Learning Series (in PSA 10).
<< <i> Are "raw" NM (7) Topps Batman cards not worth"slabbing"? >>
Nope is right. '60s cards in PSA 7 are about as soft as whipped cream. It's a shame, because they are all nice cards, but as Neil pointed out, people don't submit these cards to get 7s. When it comes back a 7, it's a busted gamble. Folks try to get their graded fee back with a higher opening bid, but there's no reason why a graded 7 Batman should sell for any more than a real sharp raw example - i.e., about 3 bucks.
Edited to add: Welcome to the board. There's a lot of good stuff and good people here - as they say, take what you like and leave the rest.
"All evil needs to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
Like an other wise 9 that is OC it grades as a 7.
Or a card that just does not have the eye appeal of a nice NM card.
Certain cards are actually hard to find in high grade! Batman Strike & Robin in Peril are two that come to mind! When those come up in high grade, throw those numbers out the window (usually).....
Do you guys also feel like 7s are going down in price on Civil War News, Mars Attacks and Topps Battle cards? These cards also intrigue me, but some prices are a bit too steep for my wallet. (BIN 8s seem astronomical, but I am a noob after all, so maybe these are fair market prices?)
<< <i>I have noticed a general downward trend in the non sports cards. Unless you have something REALLY rare, like a Mars Attacks PSA 9 (POP 1), these cards are not bringing anywhere NEAR the money they were bringing 2-3 years ago! >>
Morning,
And you haven't even seen what's going to happen, When, Not If, 4SC gets there hands on a large hoard of Batman! I have seen them and a few of their Ilk destroy the prices of Non Sports over the last 3-4 years.
Generally: With exceptions of couse
2007 2011
Batman PSA 9 $150-$300 $35-$100
Garrison Gorillas PSA 9 $75-$100 $10-$20
Mars Attacks NM 7 $150-$300 $75-$150
66 Monster Laffs PSA 9 $30-$50 $7-$20
63 Rosan Terror PSA 8 $50-$100 $15-$20
66 Green Berets PSA 8 $25-$40 $3-$6
And I could go on and on!!!
Neil
Can you clue me in again about who they are? I'm guessing another grading company?
<< <i>Sorry, dutymon, but I tried to google 4sc and all I found were chemical companies >>
Thanks!
Only 17,562 cards to choose from!
Don't be embarrassed...we take it easy on most folks until they get at least 10 posts under their belt!
WTF?
