Lightsider intrusion. Help needed for "sower" coins

Being from Nebraska, our state symbol is "The Sower".
image

So, I thought it would be fun to start a type set of "sower" coins from around the world with my kids. The easy one is France, and I've also identified "sowers" from Austria and San Marino.

Are there others? Ancient, classic, modern? And While I'm asking, what does the sower symbolize?

Any help, guidance or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks Boz. It's designs like that which inclines me to think this will make a neat little type set.

I picked up this piece recently. image

    Ooh, good question.

Funny, I'd forgotten about that Austrian design.

I wonder if there were any ancient "sower" designs. Hmm. I guess the Greeks and Romans confined their harvest themes to the gods and goddesses of fertility and such, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were such a thing.

I know that the French sower is well-known, but here are several other French designs that most probably don't know about.

Latvian 60 mm silvered bronze 5th anniversary of 15 May 1934 medal for achievement in agriculture. A different intrepretation, but still a sower.

There's a pattern Philippine peso sower design from 1969 or 1970. He faces left. The one facing right is a modern counterfeit.

Here's my 1914 French Franc version of the Sower, I still like the early 20th C. French versions the best.

Here's a Socialist Ethiopian coin. He's standing in a field with a bag over his shoulder - that's close enough to being a sower for me.

Unless the bag's just got more ammo in it. image

I'm not aware of any ancient sowers - entering the word in Wildwinds searches comes up empty. Lots of sows (pigs), lots of farmers with a yoke of oxen - but no sowing.

Well, a sower works hard, but does not directly see the fruit of their labours. I would say the imagery would be, "We're working hard to bring you a better future".
Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.

I really love how we can do this on the Darkside.. no matter the theme, we can always find some good diversity to offer up image

Like LM mentioned, I don't know of any ancient sower portrayals, but there are plenty of harvest and fertility related coin images. And depending on which crop you're interested in (if any), you can probably find those too - I know wheat type grains are on several from ancients to moderns.

You could probably even branch out to banknotes too. I don't know of any off the top of my head except for ones that depict the coins like this I sold a while back:
