OT - eBay return question

So unfortunately the PSA 9 1971 Topps Terry Bradshaw rookie I recently purchased does not appear to have been slabbed by PSA. The seller has agreed to issue a full refund as soon as I return the card. However I want to make sure I follow the appropriate return rules in case something dicey occurs and I need to go the Paypal route to get my money back. I will be sending the card USPS express mail.
My question is, how am I supposed to get the seller's return address? I asked the seller via eBay messaging and they provided an address. However, does it need to be the confirmed Paypal address for the seller? If so how would I go about getting that address?
I have not opened a case with eBay/Paypal because the seller is being cooperative. But I want to make sure I cover all bases since this is enough money for me to be annoyed if I ended up getting screwed.
Thanks,

Robb

I would call Paypal and ask them the exact procedure so you are fully covered. I am sure that it was not cheap, so I would insure it and get a return signature just to be on the safe side.

  • If I were you I would open a snad claim with paypal right away. Let the seller know that you are doing this to cover your back. Send card back with sig conformation and insurance.

    ^^^ this.
You must file a PP claim to CYA and you must use DC.

So...a seller claimed his card was graded a PSA 9, but he sent you a raw card??? What is Ebay turning into??
  • Robb,

i agree about filing the PP case, just to CYA.

Also, instead of Express Mail, i would send it Registered Mail, Return Receipt as that is the best way to send something imo.

no, it was sent in a fake PSA 9 holder
  • normally I would say work it out with the seller before opening a ebay/paypall case (since any opened case counts as a strike against the seller), but in this case a 2500.00+ card.I would open a paypal claim and send it back with signature confirmation & fully insured , might check into registered mail to see if it is cheaper but definitely get a signature confirmation plus please out the seller that is selling fake PSA slabs if you are positive beyond a shadow of doubt that it is a fake slab. jmho

in answer to another question yes it must be the Paypal address of the seller otherwise you are out of luck. ebay or paypal should provide this for you not the seller.

Adding to this - I would also send the info to PSA. Maybe one day they will take an active interest in going after the fake slab artists. We can only hope.

If that's the case, the seller is being super cooperative so you don't raise a stink. There is a chance he will try to sell it again. I would file a SNAD claim.

Exactly; as I mentined above, I'd out him to PSA for sure along with Ebay. Not sure I wouldn't discuss it with the Postmaster too.

    WRONG...YOU MUST USE SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION...PINK SLIP! >>

I could be wrong, but PP told me that all you need to complete a claim in your favor is DC to show it was properly delivered. This was about 10 months ago.

    Thanks for the replies.

I contacted eBay and they said to open a case. Which I did. I am currently waiting on receiving the confirmed Paypal address of the seller.

As indicated in my RIP thread i did in fact contact PSA and was given an opinion on the authenticity of the case. That prompted the refund request and the seller indicated the card was sold on consignment. The seller has been very cooperative thus far and seemed genuinely surprised that PSA indicated the case was most likely not authentic. I am not into the whole conspiracy theory thing so I will take the seller at his word. Prior to bidding I did check his feedback (100%) and he had sold several high priced, high grade PSA cards and received positive feedback. The link to the completed auction is 1971 PSA 9 Bradshaw

I am not sure PSA should be in the business of policing fakes. However I am very appreciative that Joe Orlando was willing to review a scan of the card and provide an opinion to its legitimacy. As with most other industries you need to be an informed buyer. That said I did not finger this card for a fake mainly due to how nice the card looks in the case. It was ldferg that noticed the font issue after viewing a scan of the card in my thread.

    Cheers,

    Robb

Scan of card below so folks can make their own informed decision regarding the authenticity of the case :

Hammered it depends on the value, over 249.99 you need Signature confirmation. (electronic)

Under that amount you can use DC.

    Good for you.

Just curious, but did you try and register the card and if so, did the number turn out to be fake?

That seller also sold a '59 Mantle PSA 9 in early Jan. for $6700 .
The card was scanned against a white background from a distance, just like your Bradshaw RC. I wonder if that card (Mantle) was a fake too? It's pretty hard to tell from the auction pictures.

It always seems odd that someone would sell high dollar cards with such crappy scans. First thing I think of is a scam is being pulled.
  • If you care to go the conspiracy theory route, the seller pulled all of his auctions yesterday and switched his feedback to private.

Can anyone give me a good reason why EBay even ALLOWS private feedback?? Isn't the whole point of feedback to inform others???

I'm not sure why it is allowed. The good thing is you can't sell if your feedback is set to private.
