It's just absolutely amazing how an idea comes to mind one day (this morning actually image ) after
years of being perplexed with a term. Let's put it where it would really count, right into the
very classic and modern series that we collect. It just doesn't get any more fundamental than this, to determine
the early die state strike of a coin and adding the, "First Strike" designation to the label.
What do you say?

Why? How do you prove this was the first, or one of the first coins struck from new dies?

    By looking at it. image

How do they determine which coins grade higher than the last coin they looked at? From the experience they gained through viewing thousands of coins. At some point, one would be able to make a hypotheses on a coin with the greatest strike.

A "First Strike" or "EDS Strike" sticker, similar to what the CAC sticker does for a coin. Doesn't sound like a bad idea at all.

What you are really proposing seems to be a designation for fully struck coins. This has been proposed in several older posts, and indirectly by Dave Bowers in several of his Coin World columns.

The coin would have needed to be submitted to PCGS for slabbing before October 1, 1942 in order to be considered for First Strike. ;p
