Anyone have any history on this eBay seller? Seems like he has hit a mother lode of PSA 10s and BGS Gems.

Thanks,

David (LD_Ferg)

Good question. i have been following them for over a year and they always have numerous BGS 10 cards. I have had nearly 1,000 cards graded by Beckett and have never a 1 BGS 10. I have had many 9.5's, but no 10's. Same story on PSA a few 10's out of nearly 1,000, never on big time cards though.

I would suspect they either are take consignments or they probably know how to cut out the cards from uncut sheets, just a guess though.image

The 78s caught my eye. Years with 0 pop and now one guy gets several. Maybe just a good run of cards.

    Thanks,

I'd either guess they get/have an enormous amount of cards and only get the BEST OF THE BEST graded... Or they are on consignment like olb said.

They seem pricey on their cards.
  • They are pricey. Some use ebay as a website to show what they have, not really for selling. (said with sarcasim) Who wouldn't want to pay $500 for a 1981 Topps Dan Fouts BGS 10??? In a standard auction 10 day auction nr, it would probably, maybe get $100-$150, maybe. Nothing against the card, I'd love to have it, but not for $500. I actually found a crossover 1975 Fouts PSA 10 to BVG 9.5 1/5, and got it for 1,000. No way will anyone pay $500.

On the Set Registry Forum, the 1978 Collectors thread states that Pristine Paper is Peter Iskowitz.

And yes...we 1978 Registrants are equally dumbfounded at the number of PSA 10s that he pulled down. Some super tough cards, too!

They call that a pristine sub.
  • Something doesn't seem quite right with that sub. Does anybody on this board that submits cards think they could pull one of those even with their most "pristine" cards?
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

That sub completely reeks of favoritism. They didn't even have the stones to put in a few 9.5's to break up the run of 10s.

And PP's BINS - $1500 for a 91 Fleer Jordan BGS 10? There are only 10 million of that card out there, we probably all own two or three beauties that make no sense to sub based on the sheer volume of cards available.

    Yeah, I think I'd rather pay $9 for a PSA 10. image

(Any sheet cuts would be in those BVG holders)

As for the sub posted above, if those are all sequential, then I can say I've never seen anything like it.
As nice as those 10s are, one would think there'd certainly be several 9s scattered throughout the sub.

This one, for instance, has less than gem centering: Link
Just an example, anyway if I send in what I think are a run of 10s, I usually get lot of 9s with one or two 10s thrown in. That's what I've come to expect, regardless of how nice the cards are.

To get 83 consecutive 10s is unbelievable

The submitter might have had a bulk deal worked out where say they submitted 2,000 cards and paid a nominal review fee of say $2.00 per card, with instructions to slab only the gem mint 10's and do nothing with the rest. Thus, if there were 50 10's out of 2000, those would be the only ones listed. THerefore, when you check the sub details, you see 50 10's in a row, but don't see the other 1950 that were not.

No idea if that's how it was done or not, just pure speculation on my part. I know BGS will do that (not necessarily those $$ numbers), don't know if PSA will or not.

    Mike,
I was thinking along these lines (send in 2000 and slab only the 10s). It makes sense as some of these in a 9 would not fetch the grading fee.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

I agree with this scenario. Any idea if the non-10's would receive a cert. # though?
