What happened to the date in this 1857 Flying Eagle Cent?

Does it affect the technical grade? What is the technical grade? Thanks!

Looks like a grease filled die to me; details are low VF.

Looks like a grease or debris in the die on the date, some damage above the head, probably net Fine.

A poster in another forum mentioned that it appears as a repunched date that was not fully repunched, in his opinion, because the other three numbers appear from the photo to have been repunched. Apparently at that time, the mint used single number punches to punch the date in the die and could have forgotton to repunch the "1".

Thoughts about that possibility?
