I have wondered what the letters MFR signfiy on older poured Engelhard bars. The letters follow the serial number. Does anyone know their meaning?

I am not familiar with that on an Engelhard bar. One would guess "manufacturer."

Not the first word that came to my mind image

  • Metals Fabrication & Refining.

MFR can be found on all sizes of bars ...... including 3s, 4s, and 7s.

They marked there bars with MFR for around 2 years .... then stopped.
